Stig Hvalryg
Stig Hvalryg (born 15 July 1960 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass), known from several orchestras and recordings, and a profile on the Oslo Jazz scene in recent years. Career He plays within Bodil Niska Quartet, "Rickard Badendyck Quartet", in "Willy Andresen Quartet", "Frode Thingnæs Quartet", "Michael Block Trio", "Tore Sandnæs Trio", with Inge Stangvik/Eivin Sannes, as well as within the Eivin Sannes "Dexter Gordon Project". He has participated in releases by Per Høglend Quintet album ''Psychiatri Meets Jazz''(2001) and Per Høglend Septett album ''Mind And Music'' (2003), Ingar Kristansen's ''The Sinatra songbook'' (2001), Anne Landes ''Largoland'' (2005) and Per Husby/Anne Lande's ''Sakte sanger''. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. Tom Olstad
Tom Olstad (born 13 April 1953 in Gjøvik, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz drummer who has performed on many recordings. Career Olstad has lived in Oslo since 1973, when he started his musical studies at Østlandets Musikkonservatorium and University of Oslo, with a graduate thesis on the ''Jazz Life in Oslo at the 1980's'' (1992). In Oslo, he joined different jazz orchestras led by Harald Gundhus, Alf Kjellman/ Ola Calmeyer, Guttorm Guttormsen, Vidar Johansen/ Åsmund Snortheim, Erik Andresen, Atle Hammer, Carl Magnus Neumann, Odd Riisnæs, Christian Reim, Karin Krog, Vidar Johansen Trio including with Kåre Garnes, 1990–, Laila Dalseth/ Totti Bergh Quartet, Brinck Johnsen, Merethe Mikkelsen, Sverre Kjelsberg, Magni Wentzel, Kjell Karlsen and Paul Weeden. Ivar Antonsen
Ivar Antonsen (born April 16, 1946, in Fauske, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz pianist and composer and had his debut at the Oslo jazz scene in 1967 together with Jan Garbarek, Palle Mikkelborg, Arild Andersen, and Espen Rud. Career Antonsen started early playing the accordion and organ, inspired by jazz musician Art van Damme. 18-year-old he came in touch with bassist Bjørn Alterhaug, and they started their first jazz band together in Mo i Rana. He moved to Oslo and studied modern composition at Norges Musikkhøgskole under Finn Mortensen and came in contact with major jazz profiles. All along he was inspired, both as jazz musician and composer, by the piano music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Igor Stravinskij. In the late 1960s he started his own Ivar Antonsen Trio including Espen Rud (drums) and alternately Terje Venaas, Sture Janson and Bjørn Alterhaug on bass. Ponca Jazz Records is a jazz record label founded by Hilde Hefte in Kristiansand, Norway in 2004 Background Hefte had an idea of releasing the Rolf Søder recording ''Jargong Vålereng' '' with Egil Kapstad as composer, arranger and band leader. Richard Badendyck
Carl Richard Badendyck (born in 1942) is a Norwegian Jazz singer and pianist, that in his time was strong in Decathlon. Biography Badendyck has released three solo albums, ''That’s All'' (2005), ''Peace'' (2010) and ''Lover'' (2015), and it is on time for a Norwegian male voice on the jazz scene again. The second album ''Peace'' containing American standards and with his son Dag Richard Badendyck as pianist on a song, got good reception in the media. The latest album with songs from «The American Songbook» with strings arranged by Odd Riisnæs who also plays saxophone, while Stig Hvalryg playing upright bass and Sigmund Thorp conducting the string orchestra. There are for the most standards, except Badendycks own tune, "Lover". Nora Brockstedt
Nora Brockstedt (20 January 1923 – 5 November 2015) was a Norwegian singer. In her last years, she focused more on the jazz genre, with successful albums like ''As Time Goes By'' (JazzAvdelingen, 2004) and ''Christmas Songs'' (JazzAvdelingen, 2005). She sang jazz in the 1960s, but was more known for her 'conventional' pop songs. She died after a short illness at Ullevaal Hospital in Oslo on 5 November 2015.Norwegians mourn Brockstedt’s death
