Stephen Daniel van Vuuren (born 26 September 1959) is a South African professional golfer who currently plays on the Sunshine Tour. He won 7 times on the Sunshine Tour between 1994 and 2007. Van Vuuren was born Germiston, Gauteng, South Africa. He currently lives in Mpumalanga. He turned professional in 1981 and joined the Sunshine Tour in 1993. before that he played on the SA Winter Tour, winning the Order of Merit in 1995. His best year by far on the Sunshine Tour was in the 1995-96 season where he won 4 times, finishing 7th on the Order of Merit. Germiston, Gauteng
Germiston, also known as kwaDukathole, is a small city in the East Rand region of Gauteng, South Africa, administratively forming part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality since the latter's establishment in 2000. It functions as the municipal seat of Ekurhuleni, hosting the municipal council and administration. Sunshine Tour
The Sunshine Tour is a men's professional golf tour based in Southern and East Africa. For much of its early history it was known either as the South African Tour or Sunshine Circuit; through sponsorship deals, it has also been known as the Vodacom Tour and the FNB Tour. For the 2000–01 season the tour rebranded itself as the ''Sunshine Tour'' in an attempt to broaden its appeal. A large majority of the tour events are still staged in South Africa. Iscor Newcastle Classic
The Iscor Newcastle Classic was a golf tournament formerly played on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa. It was first played in the 1980s when the Tour was known as the South African Winter Tour. The 1991 champion was Retief Goosen, who made the Newcastle Classic his first professional win. Goosen would go on to win two U.S. Opens. 2004–05 Sunshine Tour
The 2004–05 Sunshine Tour was the fifth season of professional golf tournaments since the southern Africa based Sunshine Tour was rebranded in 2000. The Sunshine Tour represents the highest level of competition for male professional golfers in the region. There were 21 tournaments on the schedule. This was an increase of four from the previous year, primarily due to the addition of the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour, a series of six regional tournaments that has been held every year since. The other new tournament was the MTC Namibia PGA Championship. The tour was based predominantly in South Africa, with 17 of the 21 tournaments being held in the country. Two events were held in Swaziland, and one event each was held in Botswana and Namibia. Mount Edgecombe Trophy
The Mount Edgecombe Trophy was a golf tournament that was played on the Sunshine Tour. Formed in 1993, it included a deep international field of not only Africans, but drawing names like Vijay Singh, whose best finish in the event was a tie for 3rd in 1993. It was one of the richest purses on the Sunshine Tour at the time with a first place winners share of R 71,100. The inaugural champion was Retief Goosen.
