Steve Plater
Steve Plater (born 22 August 1968, in Luton) is a former English motorcycle road racer. He was the 2009 British Supersport champion, and also finished as runner-up in the series twice in the late 1990s. In the British Superbike Championship he has 4 wins and 17 further podiums. He won the prestigious Isle of Man Senior TT, North West 200 and also enjoyed success at Endurance racing. For 2015/2016, Plater is manager of a race-team, and rides in demonstration events. He lives in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, and is involved in property development with his father. Race career Having briefly raced speedway in his teens, he started his working life as a bricklayer, beginning racing in 1994 and winning his first ever race, at Cadwell Park. Luton
Luton () is a town and unitary authority with borough status, in Bedfordshire, England. 2009 British Superbike Championship
The 2009 British Superbike season was the 22nd British Superbike Championship season. It began at Brands Hatch on 13 April, ending at Oulton Park on 11 October after 26 races held in England and Scotland. None of the top four from the 2008 championship returned, as Shane Byrne, Leon Haslam and Tom Sykes moved into the Superbike World Championship, with Cal Crutchlow leaving for the Supersport World Championship. Having lost his MotoGP ride, Sylvain Guintoli moved into the championship, joining the ''Worx Crescent Suzuki'' team on a GSX-R1000. Billy McConnell (motorcyclist)
Billy McConnell (born 24 December 1986) is an Australian motorcycle racer. He is signed for the OMG Racing team to ride their BMW S1000RR in the British National Superstock 1000 Championship, completing the team with Superbike riders Luke Mossey and Héctor Barberá. McConnell missed races at the start of the 2019 season due to illness. He won the 2014 British Supersport Champion aboard a Triumph Daytona 675 for Smiths Racing before stepping up with the Smiths Racing team to the British Superbike Championship aboard a BMW S1000RR. During 2017 he rode a Kawasaki ZX-10R in the British Superbike Championship, but was injured at the Thruxton round in August and was unable to compete in any further races. Triumph Motorcycles Ltd is the largest UK-owned motorcycle manufacturer, established in 1983 by John Bloor after the original company Triumph Engineering went into receivership. World Supersport Championship
The Supersport World Championship, abbreviated to WorldSSP, is a motorcycle racing competition on hard-surfaced circuits, based on mid-sized sports motorcycles. Competition machines were originally based on production-based motorcycles with 600 cc to 750 cc engines, depending on the number of cylinders. After trials in UK national series British Supersport, from 2022 the regulations have changed to allow eligibility of larger-displacement engines, to reflect the engine sizes being produced and encourage different manufacturers. 2008 British Superbike Championship
The 2008 British Superbike Championship season was scheduled to begin on 6 April 2008; however, snow at Brands Hatch forced the abandonment of the day's races, which were later rescheduled. The series was rescheduled to start on 20 April and end on 12 October 2008. Starting with this season the championship has a single tyre supplier. Pirelli beat Dunlop to sign a three-year deal.
