The 2009 British Supersport Championship was the twenty-second running of the British Supersport Championship. The top two runners in the 2008 championship, Glen Richards and Ian Lowry both moved up to the British Superbike Championship, with HM Plant Honda and Relentless Suzuki respectively. 2009 British Superbike Championship
The 2009 British Superbike season was the 22nd British Superbike Championship season. It began at Brands Hatch on 13 April, ending at Oulton Park on 11 October after 26 races held in England and Scotland. None of the top four from the 2008 championship returned, as Shane Byrne, Leon Haslam and Tom Sykes moved into the Superbike World Championship, with Cal Crutchlow leaving for the Supersport World Championship. Having lost his MotoGP ride, Sylvain Guintoli moved into the championship, joining the ''Worx Crescent Suzuki'' team on a GSX-R1000. HM Plant Honda had an all-new all- Australian line-up, with former World Supersport Championship front-runner Josh Brookes and reigning British Supersport Champion Glen Richards. Donington Park
Donington Park is a motorsport circuit located near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. The circuit business is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation, and the surrounding Donington Park Estate, still owned by the Wheatcroft family, is currently under lease by MotorSport Vision until 2038. It has a capacity of 120,000, and is also the venue of the Download Festival. Originally part of the Donington Hall estate, it was created as a racing circuit during the period between the First and Second World Wars when the German Silver Arrows were battling for the European Championship. Used as a military vehicle storage depot during the Second World War, it fell into disrepair until bought by local construction entrepreneur Tom Wheatcroft. Yamaha YZF-R6
The Yamaha YZF-R6 is a sport bike, produced by Yamaha as a 600 class from 1999 to 2020. From 2021, production availability is limited to race-only specification in most global markets, causing race organisers to re-align their engine eligibility criteria to encourage other manufacturers having larger than 600 cc displacements to enter road-race competition from 2022. Race organisers wanted to provide scope for alternative machinery to move away from established tradition of the Yamaha R6 being the dominant marque in Supersport racing. Silverstone Circuit
Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit in England, near the Northamptonshire villages of Towcester, Silverstone and Whittlebury. It is the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted as the 1948 British Grand Prix. The 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone was the first race in the newly created World Championship of Drivers. The race rotated between Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch from 1955 to 1986, but settled permanently at the Silverstone track in 1987. Croft Circuit is a motor racing circuit located near Dalton-on-Tees in North Yorkshire, England. The tarmac circuit is long and is based on the lands of an airfield, but has long since moved on from being a basic airfield circuit. The circuit holds meetings of the British Touring Car Championship, British Rallycross and Pickup Truck Racing race series. History The first records of racing at Croft date back to the 1920s, but it was after the Second World War that Croft circuit became a significant motorsport venue. Cadwell Park is a motor racing circuit in Lincolnshire, England, south of Louth, owned and operated by MotorSport Vision, a business associated with former racing driver Jonathan Palmer. Sited on former parkland across a steep-sided valley with dips and crests, the circuit features sharp changes in gradient, including one section called ''The Mountain'' where bikes can become airborne by up to several feet. Daniel Craig Linfoot (born 8 July 1988 in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire) is a motorcycle road racer who, for 2022, competed at the start of the season in the British Superbike Championship, then in July, halfway through the season, switched to the Superstock category, a support class within the Superbike racing events. He was part of an Endurance race team, and also raced in Superstock at the end of 2021. Chris Martin (born 24 January 1981) is a British superbike rider who is currently competing in the British Superbike Championship for the Gearlink Kawasaki team. Martin is a previous British Superbike Privateers Cup Champion in 2006. Career Starting Out Martin started out doing the 125cc Aprilia challenge, spending 3 years between 1997-99. Martin then spent 3 years in the British 125cc Championship from 2000 to 2003. British Superbike Championship 2004-07 Martin then moved from the 125cc machines into the Superbike class, Martin rode a Privateer machine throughout his time in BSB, he finished 6th and 2nd in the championship in the first two years, but Martin moved to PR Branson Honda, and became the privateer champion of 2006. Ben Wilson (born 31 March 1982 in Boston, Lincolnshire) is a motorcycle racer. He currently rides an Aprilia RSV4 in the National Superstock 1000 Championship. Career Starting Out Wilson started off in sand racing in 1995, he quickly moved up the classes, debuting in the Supersport class in 2000 gaining a 15th-place finish at Oulton Park at his very first meeting. Knockhill Racing Circuit
Knockhill Racing Circuit is a motor racing circuit in Fife, Scotland. It opened in September 1974 and is Scotland's national motorsport centre. The circuit is located in the countryside about north of Dunfermline. It is the only FIA approved circuit in Scotland. History The circuit opened in September 1974. It was created by joining service roads to a nearby disused mineral railway, closed in 1951, which served Lethans Colliery. The first car race was held on 18 May 1975.
