Steelism
Steelism are a Nashville-based instrumental band. A "country twang, jazz, blues, R&B, surf guitar, and Ennio Morricone-like movie soundtrack washed in a 21st century blend," Steelism is composed of guitarist Jeremy Fetzer and pedal steel player Spencer Cullum. History Fetzer (from Canton, Ohio) and Cullum (from Essex, England) met while backing up singer Caitlin Rose on a UK tour. They began writing together after discovering a shared interest in classic movie soundtrack composers such as Ennio Morricone and 60s instrumental artists including Booker T. and the M.G.s, The Ventures and Pete Drake. Their debut EP ''The Intoxicating Sounds of Pedal Steel and Guitar'' was released in October 2012. In September 2014, the band released their debut full-length album, ''615 to FAME'' in North America on Single Lock Records. Single Lock Records is an American record label based in Florence, Alabama. It was founded by Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes), John Paul White and Will Trapp in 2013 to release music from The Shoals region of Alabama, but has since expanded its reach worldwide. Today, the label is overseen by the team of Reed Watson, Ben Tanner and Addy Kimbrell, with offices in Florence, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. FAME Studios
FAME (Florence Alabama Music Enterprises) Studios is a recording studio located at 603 East Avalon Avenue in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, an area of northern Alabama known as the Shoals. Though small and distant from the main recording locations of the American music industry, FAME has produced many hit records and was instrumental in what came to be known as the Muscle Shoals sound. It was started in the 1950s by Rick Hall, known as the Founder of Muscle Shoals Music. The studio, owned by Hall until his death in 2018, is still actively operating. It was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on December 15, 1997, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Andrew 'Buggs' Combs (born December 31, 1977) was a former American professional lacrosse player. He attended the University of Maryland, and played with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of the Major League Lacrosse. Combs is currently a head lacrosse coach for the API Diamondbacks Lacrosse Club in Gambrills, Maryland for Athletic Performance Incorporated. Combs was the Offensive Coordinator, under head coach Tony Seaman, for the Towson University Men's Lacrosse team. Alabama Shakes were an American rock band formed in Athens, Alabama, in 2009. The band consists of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, and drummer Steve Johnson. The band began its career touring and performing at bars and clubs around the Southeast for two years while honing its sound and writing music. They recorded their debut album, '' Boys & Girls'', with producer Andrija Tokic in Nashville while still unsigned. Muscle Shoals is the largest city in Colbert County, Alabama, Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It is located along the Tennessee River in the northern part of the state and, as of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, the population of Muscle Shoals was 13,146. Roddis Franklin "Pete" Drake (October 8, 1932 – July 29, 1988), was a Nashville-based American record producer and pedal steel guitar player. One of the most sought-after backup musicians of the 1960s, Drake played on such hits as Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden", Charlie Rich's " Behind Closed Doors", Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay", and Tammy Wynette's "Stand by Your Man". Drake was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022, 33 years after his death. Career Drake was born in Augusta, Georgia, the son of a Pentecostal preacher. In 1950, he drove to Nashville, heard Jerry Byrd on the Grand Ole Opry, and was inspired to buy a steel guitar.
