Stan Seymour Jr. was a former chairman of Newcastle United and the son of Stan Seymour Sr. Career Born the son of the player, Stan Seymour Sr., in Scotland, Stan Seymour Jr managed a sports shop in Newcastle upon Tyne. Seymour Jr. inherited his fathers' shareholding in Newcastle United, was appointed to the board of the company in April 1976, and went on to be chairman in March 1981. He stopped manager, Arthur Cox, from spending large amounts on acquiring players, worked hard to improve the financial position of the club and halted a takeover by businessman, Ernie Clay. He also brought the player, Kevin Keegan Joseph Kevin Keegan (born 14 February 1951) is an English former footballer and manager. Stan Seymour
George Stanley Seymour (16 May 1895 – 24 December 1978) was a footballer who played for Newcastle United then became manager, vice-chairman and director of the club. Born in Kelloe, Seymour is one of the club's all-time greats, and was known as 'Mr. Newcastle United' after the various years and roles he delivered for the club. As a player, despite his small physique, he was famous for his runs from the left wing. Early career After originally being rejected by Newcastle United as a teenager (the local pit worker was told to 'come back when you grow up') he played some non-league football for Shildon Athletic and Coxhoe before joining Bradford City in 1911 for a short spell, making only one competitive appearance. He then joined Scottish side Greenock Morton. He developed as a player at Morton, becoming popular with the locals who called him 'The little Englishman'. Arthur Cox (footballer)
Arthur Cox (born 14 December 1939 in Southam, Warwickshire) is an English former football manager. He was unable to become a professional football player as he broke his leg playing in a reserve game for Coventry City. He spent time coaching at Sunderland and in Turkey, before he was given his first management position. Career Cox started his management career at Chesterfield in 1976 where he stayed for four years before joining Newcastle United. Here he won promotion to the First Division and introduced future international players such as Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle. He also gave Newcastle a cult hero in Kevin Keegan, the former England striker, who joined the club in 1982 and was instrumental in their promotion two years later before retiring. Cox left Newcastle just after their promotion in 1984 and took over at Derby County, who had just been relegated to the Third Division. Kevin Keegan
Joseph Kevin Keegan (born 14 February 1951) is an English former footballer and manager. A forward, he played for several professional clubs from 1968 to 1984. Having begun his career at Scunthorpe United, he moved to Liverpool in 1971 and then to Hamburger SV in 1977, enjoying great success at both clubs. During this period, he was a regular member of the England national team. He was twice the winner of the Ballon d'Or. After leaving Hamburg in 1980, he played for Southampton and Newcastle United. Keegan returned to football in 1992 as manager at Newcastle. He later managed Fulham and Manchester City. At all three clubs, the team won promotion as champions in his first full season there. He managed England from 1999 to 2000.
