''Corydoras punctatus'' (spotted catfish) is a species of catfish found in the Suriname river basin and Iracoubo river basin in tropical Suriname and French Guiana. The species is rarely seen. It is hard to tell the sex of the fish until they are an adult. The species can breed easily. Marcus Elieser Bloch
Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723–1799) was a German physician and naturalist who is best known for his contribution to ichthyology through his multi-volume catalog of plates illustrating the fishes of the world. Brought up in a Hebrew-speaking Jewish family, he learned German and Latin and studied anatomy before settling in Berlin as a physician. He amassed a large natural history collection, particularly of fish specimens. He is generally considered one of the most important ichthyology, ichthyologists of the 18th century, and wrote many papers on natural history, comparative anatomy, and physiology. Life Bloch was born at Ansbach in 1723 where his father was a Torah writer and his mother owned a small shop. Catfish
Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Suriname River
The Suriname River (Dutch: ''Surinamerivier'') is 480 km long and flows through the country Suriname. Its sources are located in the Guiana Highlands on the border between the Wilhelmina Mountains and the Eilerts de Haan Mountains (where it is known as the Gran Rio). The river flows below the reservoir along Brokopondo, Berg en Dal, the migrant communities Klaaskreek and Nieuw-Lombé, Jodensavanne, Carolina, Ornamibo and Domburg, before reaching the capital Paramaribo on the left bank and Meerzorg on the right bank. Iracoubo River
Iracoubo is a commune on the coast of French Guiana, an overseas region and department of France located in South America]. Geography The settlement of Iracoubo, seat of the commune, is located between the settlement of Sinnamary and the hamlet of Organabo. The village of Bellevue is west of Iracoubo. Trou Poisson, a near abandoned village is located to the south. The village has a cemetery of priests deported during the French revolution.
