__NOTOC__ Spdfgh ( were an Australian rock band from the 1990s. The founding members were: Kim Bowers (as Wikky Malone) (guitar, vocals), Liz Payne (as Rosy Glo, Lou Marvel, Belle) (guitar, vocals), Via Tania, Tania Bowers (as Tania May) (bass guitar, vocals), Melanie Thurgar (as Finnius) (drums), and Angela Morosin (vocals). In chemistry, the letters (spdfgh...) are used when determining the number of electrons in the Electron shell, shells of an atom (the letters denote the first six states of angular momentum operator, orbital angular momentum in atomic physics). ''TV Week'' magazine called it "the dumbest name in Australian rock". The band name came about this way: Liz Payne's brother Geoff and friend Paul Hillard were studying for their Higher School Certificate physics exams, and recited "spdfgh" to aid recall of this topic. Gerling
Gerling were an Australian electronica, alternative rock trio formed in 1993. From early 1997 the members were Darren Cross on guitar and lead vocals, Presser (real name Paul Towner) on drums and Burke Reid on guitar and vocals. Their second album, ''When Young Terrorists Chase the Sun'' (September 2001), reached the ARIA Albums Chart top50. It provided a top50 single, "Dust Me Selecta" (August 2001). The group disbanded in 2007. History Gerling were formed as a guitar pop trio in 1993 in western Sydney with the line-up of Darren Cross (aka Darren E. Via Tania
Tania May-Bowers, better known by her stage name Via Tania, is an Australian singer formerly based in Chicago, Illinois. Life and career Via Tania originally started performing in Sydney during the 1990s with her sister Kim Bowers in noise outfit named Spdfgh. After relocating to Chicago at the end of the 1990s, Tania set about piecing together an album as Via Tania, with producer Casey Rice and various Chicago musical luminaries. Her first release "Dream Of" was through seminal Chicago record label Chocolate Industries in 2002. This was followed by a 12" vinyl release (also through Chocolate Industries) of "Lightning and Thunder" which was backed with a cover of New Order's "Temptation". Godstar (band)
Godstar were a psychedelic pop band which formed in 1991. The group's founding mainstay, Nic Dalton, is a multi-instrumentalist who was also in The Plunderers, Sneeze and The Lemonheads, and ran the Half A Cow record label. Other members were Robyn St Clare The Hummingbirds, Alison Galloway on drums (ex-Jupiter) and Tom Morgan (also in Sneeze) on guitar and vocals. In September 1993 the band toured nationally promoting their debut studio album, '' Sleeper''. In July 1995 their second album, ''Coastal'', appeared and was followed by another national tour. The group disbanded later that year. Dalton's Half a Cow label issued further Godstar material under the name The Godstar Reminder.
