Sovetskaya Street (russian: Советская улица) is a street in Novosibirsk, Russia. It branches off from Krasny Avenue near the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and then runs north parallel to it. Sovetskaya Street ends at the intersection with Zheleznodorozhnaya and Pisarev streets. Sovetskaya Street is the border between the Tsentralny and Zheleznodorozhny districts of the city. Krasny Prospekt (russian: Красный проспект) or Krasny Avenue is the central street and major thoroughfare in the city of Novosibirsk, Russia. Its length is about 7 km. It runs across the central part of the city starting from the right bank of the Ob River and terminates in the vicinity of Severny Airport. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (russian: Собор во имя Александра Невского) is the Eastern Orthodox Cathedral in Novosibirsk, Russia, named in honor of Saint Alexander Nevsky. It is one of the first stone constructions in Novonikolayevsk (former name of Novosibirsk). The church was built in Neo-Byzantine architectural style in 1896–1899. The building design was influenced by the design of Church of Our Lady the Merciful in St.Petersburg built a few years earlier. It was opened and consecrated on December 29, 1899. In 1915 it became a cathedral. The cathedral was a specific monument to Tsar Alexander III who initiated construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway which resulted in the foundation of Novonikolayevsk (now Novosibirsk) as a new railway station. Zheleznodorozhny District (russian: Железнодорожный район) is an administrative district (raion) of Central Okrug, one of the 10 raions of Novosibirsk, Russia. Kryukov House (russian: Дом Крюкова) is a building in Zheleznodorozhny City District of Novosibirsk, Russia, built in 1908. It is located on the corner of Sovetskaya and Gorky streets. The house originally belonged to the merchant Zakhary Grigoryevich Kryukov. History The house was built in Novonikolayevsk on Kabinetskaya (now Sovetskaya) Street in 1908. The basement and first floor of the building remained at the disposal of Kryukov, the second floor was rented by Novonikolayevsk Public Meeting. Later, Novonikolayevsk Public Meeting also rented the first floor. In 1910, Kryukov's wife, Yekaterina Ivanovna Kryukova, wrote a request to Novonikolayevsk City Government for the construction of an extension to the building along Tobizenovskaya Street (current Gorky Street).
