South Tabor is a neighborhood in southeastern Portland, Oregon in the United States. The neighborhood is bounded by SE Division, Powell, 52nd, and 82nd Avenues. Its neighborhood association is a member of the Southeast Uplift coalition, which serves as its link to Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement. South Tabor is named for its proximity to Mount Tabor, an extinct volcano and one of Portland's more popular parks. South Tabor is largely residential; all of the neighborhood's businesses are situated on the streets that form its boundaries. 82nd Avenue
82nd Avenue of the Roses (simply 82nd Avenue prior to 2005) is a street in Portland, Oregon, and comprises the northern end of Oregon Route 213, also known as the Cascade Highway. It is one of the longest streets in Portland, running down the entire east side of the city, and extending into suburbs to the south. The street runs from Airport Way Frontage Rd in Northeast Portland, south through Clackamas and Happy Valley, to Interstate 205 in Gladstone. Oregon 213 continues south beyond I-205. Mount Tabor (Oregon)
Mount Tabor is an extinct volcanic vent with a city park on the volcano, located in Portland, Oregon's neighborhood of the same name. The name refers to Mount Tabor, Israel. It was named by Plympton Kelly, son of Oregon City pioneer resident Clinton Kelly. Cinder cone The peak of Mount Tabor is in elevation; about two-thirds of this is prominence since the surrounding land is about elevation. Near the peak, where a basketball court and outdoor amphitheater are now situated, part of the cinder cone has been cut away, and the rock is visible to park visitors. The remaining cinders were used to pave the nearby parking lot. Confederated Tribes Of Grand Ronde
The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon (CTGR) consists of twenty-seven Native American tribes with long historical ties to present-day western Oregon between the western boundary of the Oregon Coast and the eastern boundary of the Cascade Range, and the northern boundary of southwestern Washington and the southern boundary of northern California. The community has an Indian reservation, the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation, which was established in 1855 in Yamhill and Polk counties. Because the people had lived near each other, and often spoke more than one language for use in trading, after they were grouped together in the 19th century on the reservation, they refined a creole language that became known as Chinook Jargon. Although long forced to speak English, the people are working to conserve this native language named Chinuk Wawa. They have produced native speakers through immersion programs for young children. Franklin High School (Oregon)
Franklin High School (formally Benjamin Franklin High School) is a public high school in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is located in central southeast Portland in the South Tabor neighborhood. History Founded in 1914, Franklin is Portland's fourth high school. The city's high schools were filled to capacity at the time, and the population in southeast Portland was rapidly growing. It was initially founded in part of the Creston elementary school, with nine instructors and 115 student in the spring 1914 semester. The current brick building, designed by Floyd Naramore, opened in September 1917. In 1942, a statue of Benjamin Franklin, after whom the school was named, was installed outside of Franklin High School. In Greek mythology, the Labyrinth (, ) was an elaborate, confusing structure designed and built by the legendary artificer Daedalus for King Minos of Crete at Knossos. Jade District
The Jade District is an Asian-dominated commercial area and cultural hub radiating outward from Southeast 82nd Avenue and Division Street, in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. It is roughly between Division Street and Powell Boulevard to the north and south, and between SE 75th Avenue and I-205 to the east and west.
