South Norfolk, Manitoba
The Rural Municipality of South Norfolk is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015, as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Treherne to form the Municipality of Norfolk Treherne. The former RM is located in the Central Plains Region of the province. A portion of the Long Plain First Nation Indian reserve lies within its northeast corner. It was originally part of the RM of Norfolk, which was originally incorporated in 1879 before being divided into the former RMs of North Norfolk and South Norfolk. A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Manitoba has 98 RMs, which had a cumulative population of 301,438 as of the 2016 Census. This is a decrease from 116 RMs prior to January 1, 2015, when municipalities with less than 1,000 people were directed by the provincial government to amalgamate with adjoining municipalities to comply with the ''Municipal Act''. Treherne, Manitoba
Treherne is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Norfolk Treherne within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to January 1, 2015. It is halfway between Winnipeg and Brandon on Provincial Highway 2. Primarily a farming community, Treherne has a significant portion of the municipality's population, which is around 1750 people, Official Treherne Website and has two schools (Treherne Elementary School and Treherne Collegiate Institute) and a hospital. The Central Plains Region (french: Région des plaines centrales) is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba located in the south central part of the Canadian province of Manitoba, directly west of Winnipeg. Long Plain First Nation
The Long Plain First Nation ( oj, Gaa-ginooshkodeyaag) is an Ojibway and Dakota First Nations band government whose reserve is located in the Central Plains Region of Manitoba, Canada. Its reserve lands include the Long Plain Reserve #6, the Keeshkeemaquah Reserve near Portage La Prairie, and the Madison Indian Reserve #1—the first urban reserve in Winnipeg. It is located to the southwest of Portage la Prairie along the Assiniboine River.
