South Mosman Ferry Wharf
South Mosman ferry wharf is located on the northern side of Sydney Harbour serving the Sydney suburb of Mosman. It is located at the end of Musgrave St, and was known as Musgrave Street Wharf from the 19th century through to the 1990s when the State Government renamed it "Mosman South". Today it is known as South Mosman but many locals still refer to it as Musgrave Street wharf. Mosman is a suburb on the Lower North Shore region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Mosman is located 8 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the Municipality of Mosman. Mosman Bay Ferry Services
The Mosman Bay ferry service (numbered F6) is a commuter ferry route in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Part of the Sydney Ferries network, it serves several Lower North Shore suburbs around Mosman Bay. Services begin on the southern side of Sydney Harbour at Circular Quay, then head northeast to the Cremorne Point wharf. Proceeding around Robertsons Point, ferries travel up Mosman Bay to the terminus. Services operate every half an hour on weekdays and every hour at night and on weekends. Wharves Circular Quay Circular Quay wharf is located at the northern end of the Sydney central business district. The locality of Circular Quay is a major Sydney transport hub, with a large ferry, heavy rail, light rail and bus interchange. Howard Hinton (art Patron)
Howard Hinton (10 November 1866 – 23 January 1948) was an Australian art patron and benefactor. A thwarted artist due to Near-sightedness, shortsightedness, he visited many of the great galleries of Europe in his youth. At age 24 he migrated to Australia and quickly associated with leading artists of the Heidelberg School and the bohemian Sydney artists' camps, artists' camps around Sydney Harbour in the 1890s. He built a successful career in shipping and, along with a family inheritance, used his moderate wealth to support waves of Australian artists in the first half of the twentieth century. Through extensive donations to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and particularly the Armidale Teachers' College he became one of the greatest benefactors in Australian art history. ''Lady Edeline'' was a Sydney Harbour ferry built in 1913 for the Balmain New Ferry Company. She and four similar ferries, ''Lady Chelmsford'' (1910), '' Lady Denman'' (1912), ''Lady Ferguson'' (1914), '' Lady Scott'' (1914) were a new series of "Lady-class", designed by renowned naval architect, Walter Reeks. ''Lady Edeline'' and her four sisters survived the 1932 opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and were converted to diesel power that decade. They also survived the 1951 NSW State Government takeover of the ailing ferry fleet. She was taken out of service in 1984 following the sinking of fellow old wooden ferry, '' Karrabee'' earlier that year. MV Kanangra
''Kanangra'' is a retired ferry on Sydney Harbour. She was launched in 1912 during the early-twentieth century pre-Sydney Harbour Bridge boom years of Sydney Ferries Limited. She and her close "sister" ferry, ''Kirawa'' (also 1912), were the first of four steel-hulled " K-class" ferries, the majority of which were timber-hulled. Both 45 metres in length and with passenger capacities of over 1,000 passengers each, the two were among the largest of the Sydney Ferries Limited fleet and they mainly served the busy Cremorne and Mosman routes. ''Kanangra'' was retired as a ferry in 1985 and is moored at Rozelle Bay as part of the Sydney Heritage Fleet and is undergoing restoration. The ''Kirrule''-type ferries (or Kubu-class) - ''Kiandra'', ''Kirrule'' and ''Kubu'' - were three identical K-class ferries that operated on Sydney Harbour by Sydney Ferries Limited. The three steam ferries were built in 1910, 1911 and 1912 at the height of the boom in ferry traffic across Sydney Harbour prior to the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. They were the second largest type of inner harbour vessels and built for the rapidly increasing North Shore demand. First Fleet-class Ferry
The First Fleet class is a class of ferry operated by Transdev Sydney Ferries on Sydney Harbour. History In the early 1980s, the Urban Transit Authority ordered nine catamaran ferries from Carrington Slipways, Tomago. They were to replace the '' K-class'' and wooden ''Lady'' class ferries on Sydney Harbour. The new vessels were named after ships of the First Fleet and were delivered between 1984 and 1986. It was originally intended that they would operate services on the Parramatta River, but they generated too much wash. In 2006/07, the class were repowered with MTU Series 60 engines. Today, all nine remain in service with Transdev Sydney Ferries. In 2020, the then 35-year old ferries underwent a major facelift to provide them with another 10 years of service.
