Soni (film)
''Soni'' is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film directed by Ivan Ayr. Produced by Kimsi Singh and Kartikeya Narayan Singh, the film stars Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Saloni Batra in the lead roles. It was written by Ayr and Kislay and chronicles the life of police officer Soni (Ohlyan) and her superintendent in Delhi Police Kalpana (Batra), who deal with crimes against women in the city. The idea for ''Soni'' occurred to Ayr in 2014 when he was reading that Delhi was being put under scrutiny for not being safe for women, especially after the 2012 gang rape case. Ayr read several articles and interviews about the Delhi police and was interested in woman officers' reactions to cases of sexual violence. He spent time with several Delhi police personnel and observed their daily routine. Geetika Vidya Ohlyan
Geetika Vidya Ohlyan is an Indian actress. She starred in the crime drama film '' Soni'' (2018), in which she portrayed a police officer combating crimes against women in Delhi. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed film ''Thappad'' (2020), directed by Anubhav Sinha. Early life Ohlyan's father organized theatre festivals in Haryana. She attended the University of Delhi's Kirori Mal College, where she joined her college's theatre society, and directed and wrote scripts during her studies. Ohlyan graduated in 2012 with a degree in English literature. Gautam Arora, a college friend of Ohlyan's and an assistant director on ''Soni'', was the first to suggest her for the part. ''Offside'' ( fa, آفساید) is a 2006 Iranian film directed by Jafar Panahi, about a group of girls who tried to watch a World Cup qualifying match but are forbidden by law because of their gender. Female fans are not allowed to enter football stadiums in Iran on the grounds that there will be a high risk of violence or verbal abuse against them. The film was inspired by the director's daughter, who decided to attend a game anyway. The film was shot in Iran but its screening was banned there. Namrata Joshi is an Indian film critic based in New Delhi. Originally working for ''Outlook'', she remained there from 1999 till 2015, when she joined ''The Hindu''. Baradwaj Rangan is an Indian film critic, writer, and formerly the deputy editor of ''The Hindu''. He later became a senior editor of Film Companion. Rangan won the National Film Award for Best Film Critic in 2006. Before joining ''The Hindu'', Rangan wrote for ''The New Indian Express''.
