Songs That Made Me
''Songs That Made Me'' is a collaborative studio album by Australian singer songwriter Katie Noonan and various female artists. The album features Katie and some of her favourite female artists interpreting the songs that influenced their lives with 100% of profits from the album go to Cancer Council's Pink Ribbon. The album grew from a successful tour in 2013, into a full-length album followed by an extensive national tour throughout October and November 2014. Background and release "The initial idea for Songs That Made Me came from the desire to share the stage with other women and, to make it an exclusively female thing, because it's very rare, it doesn't happen often," Noonan says. Noonan lead the way for the album's eclectic song choices which include covering Radiohead, The Pretenders and Fleetwood Mac. Katie Noonan
Katie Anne Noonan (born 2 May 1977) is an Australian singer-songwriter. In addition to a successful solo career encompassing opera, jazz, pop, rock and dance, she was the singer in the band George and remains the singer in the band Elixir; performs with her mother Maggie Noonan; and plays with her band The Captains. Noonan was the musical director of and performed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games' opening and closing ceremonies. Early life Noonan grew up with a strong background in classical music, with her mother Maggie being a well-known opera singer. She studied opera and jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium. "When You Were Mine" is a song written and released by Prince on his 1980 album, ''Dirty Mind''. Though not released as a single, the song received a promotional 12" release (which included "Gotta Broken Heart Again" and " Uptown"). "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" is a song by the English alternative rock band Radiohead. It is the final track on their second studio album, '' The Bends'' (1995). It was released as a single on 22 January 1996 and reached number five on the UK Singles Chart, Radiohead's highest position up to that point. Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scott Moorhead, was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), known professionally as Nina Simone (), was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. "O-o-h Child" is a 1970 single, written by Stan Vincent, recorded by Chicago soul family group the Five Stairsteps and released on the Buddah label. The Five Stairsteps had previous peripheral success recording in Chicago with Curtis Mayfield; when Mayfield's workload precluded his continuing to work with the group they were reassigned to Stan Vincent, an in-house producer for Buddah Records, who had recently scored a Top Ten hit with the Lou Christie single " I'm Gonna Make You Mine". The Five Stairsteps' debut collaboration with Vincent was originally formatted with the group's rendition of "Dear Prudence" as the A-side with Vincent's original composition "O-o-h Child" as B-side. Sahara Beck (born 1996) is an Australian singer and songwriter, from the Sunshine Coast. "Another Day in Paradise" is a song recorded by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. Produced by Collins along with Hugh Padgham, it was released as the first single from his number-one album '' ...But Seriously'' (1989). As with his song for Genesis, "Man on the Corner", the track has as its subject the problem of homelessness and paradise; as such, the song was a substantial departure from the dance-pop music of his previous album, ''No Jacket Required'' (1985).
