Sokndal is the southernmost municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Dalane. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hauge. Sogndalsstranda or Sogndalstrand is a harbor village in Sokndal municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the river Sokno, about south of the municipal centre of Hauge and also about southeast of the village of Rekefjord. The Jøssingfjorden lies about southeast of the village. The village has about 280 residents and it has become a tourist destination since the 1990s. The old village has many wooden buildings and warehouses. These buildings and the surrounding area were protected by law in 2005. Locally, the area is also known as simply Strondo. History The village grew up starting in the 1600s and by the 1660s, there was a beach resort located in Sogndalstrand. Rekefjord
Rekefjord is a harbour village in the municipality of Sokndal in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located around the Rekefjorden, about west of the municipal centre of Hauge i Dalane. The village of Sogndalsstranda lies about southeast of Rekefjord. The Lille Presteskjær Lighthouse is located at the mouth of the fjord, just south of the village. A railway line was constructed in the 1860s for bringing ore from the Blåfjell Mines to Rekefjord for shipment. The railway has since closed and today it is a pedestrian and bicycle path. Sogndal, Rogaland
Sogndal is a former municipality and small seaport ('' ladested'') in Rogaland county, Norway. The municipality is located on the coast in the traditional district of Dalane. The municipality existed from 1845 until its dissolution in 1944 when it was merged into the municipality of Sokndal. It comprised the two harbor villages: the Sogndalsstranda and the Rægefjord. The river ''Sogndalselva'' reaches the ocean at Songdalsstranda. History The seaport village of Sogndalsstranda was built up around the Kjelland farm (historically spelled ''Kielland''). The farm (named after a spring (''kilde'') situated there) was owned by the Kielland family, from which Alexander Kielland descended. Åna-Sira is a village in southwestern Norway, sitting mostly in Sokndal municipality in Rogaland county, but a small portion lies in Flekkefjord municipality in Agder county. The village is located at the mouth of the river Sira where it flows south into Åna fjord (hence the name of the village). Dalane is a traditional district in the southwestern part of Norway, consisting of the municipalities of Lund, Sokndal, Eigersund, and Bjerkreim. Dalane is one of the 15 districts in Western Norway. It sits to the southeast of the very flat Jæren region and south of the moorland of Ryfylke. The district has about 24,159 residents (as of 2014).
