Sky Screamer
SkyScreamer is an amusement ride located at several Six Flags theme parks in North America. Designed by Funtime (manufacturer), Funtime, an Austrian ride manufacturer, the attraction is one of their "Star Flyer" models. Riders aboard SkyScreamer are carried aloft in two-person swing-like chairs attached to a rotating gondola mounted on a central tower. When the gondola reaches the top of the tower, riders are swung in a wide circle at speeds approaching , with a bird's eye view of the surrounding area. The ride is marketed to both thrill-ride enthusiasts and patrons seeking a more family-friendly experience. History The first two SkyScreamers were announced in late 2010 for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags St. Louis for the 2011 season. On May 14, 2011, SkyScreamer officially opened at Six Flags St. Louis, where it replaced the Riverview Racer. The swing ride or chair swing ride (sometimes called a swing carousel, wave swinger, yo-yo, waver swinger, Chair-O-Planes, Dodo or swinger) is an amusement ride that is a variation on the carousel in which the seats are suspended from the rotation, rotating top of the carousel. On some versions, particularly on the Wave Swingers, the rotating top of the carousel also tilts for additional variations of motion. History Hollycombe Steam Collection has a chair-o-planes adapted from a bomb damaged roundabout in 1944. A Chair-O-Planes premiered in Germany in 1972, designed by Zierer and built by Anton Schwarzkopf, Franz Schwarzkopf, brother of Anton Schwarzkopf. Sky Swatter
The Sky Swatter (sometimes Sky Swat) was a thrill ride which was built by S&S Power of Logan, Utah. It was marketed from 2003 to 2010; only two ''Sky Swatter''s were manufactured. The first installation of a Sky Swatter was as ''SWAT'' at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, which operated from 2003 until the park permanently closed at the end of the 2005 season. The ride then was moved to Six Flags New England and operated from 2006 through 2012 as ''Catapult''. The other Sky Swatter operated as ''Slammer'' at Thorpe Park from 2005 until the ride closed permanently in May 2017.
