Sentinel Range
The Sentinel Range is a major mountain range situated northward of Minnesota Glacier and forming the northern half of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The range trends NNW-SSE for about and is 24 to 48 km (15 to 30 mi) wide. Ellsworth Mountains
The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranges in Antarctica, forming a long and wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land. They are bisected by Minnesota Glacier to form the Sentinel Range to the north and the Heritage Range to the south. Newcomer Glacier () is a glacier long transecting the north part of the Sentinel Range, flowing from the vicinity of Allen Peak southeast between Gromshin Heights and the main ridge of range, and then east between Gromshin Heights and Sostra Heights to where it leaves the Sentinel Range north of Bracken Peak and south of Foros Spur. MacDonald Peak
MacDonald Peak is a peak rising to midway between Shockey Peak and Mount Crawford near the north end of the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Antarctica. It was discovered by Lincoln Ellsworth on his trans-Antarctic flight of November 23, 1935, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1961 for William R. MacDonald of the Branch of Special Maps in the United States Geological Survey (USGS) who prepared the 1962 map of this range. Subsequently, MacDonald participated in numerous expeditions to Antarctica to supervise aerial photography used in preparing USGS maps of the continent.
