Sinnathamby Rajaratnam
Sinnathamby Rajaratnam ( ta, சின்னத்தம்பி ராஜரத்னம்; 25 February 1915 – 22 February 2006), better known as S. Rajaratnam, was a Singaporean politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 1980 and 1985. Rajaratnam is widely recognized as one of the founding fathers of Singapore. He was also one of the founders of the People's Action Party (PAP), which has governed the country continuously since independence. Rajaratnam was one of the pioneering leaders of independent Singapore as it achieved self-governance in 1959 and later independence in 1965. He devoted much of his adult life to public service, and helped shape the mentality of Singaporeans on contemporary issues. The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at the Nanyang Technological University and the S. Rajaratnam block of Raffles Institution are named after him. The Darjah Utama Temasek ( en, Order of Temasek) is Singapore's second most prestigious Singaporean orders and decorations, national honour and was instituted in 1962. It is an Order (distinction), Order conferred by the President of Singapore only to citizens of Singapore. It may be awarded to non-citizens only under special circumstances. As of 29 July 2019, the Order has three different grades: * the Order of Temasek (With High Distinction), * the Order of Temasek (With Distinction), and * the Order of Temasek. The rules of award state that no more than 12 people (other than people admitted in an honorary capacity) may be admitted to the Order of Temasek (With High Distinction) at any one time. Kampong Glam Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) in Kampong Glam, Singapore. It existed as Kampong Glam Constituency from 1959 to 1988 then it was renamed as Kampong Glam Single Member Constituency during political reform in 1988. The SMC lasted another term till 1991 when it was absorbed into Kampong Glam Group Representation Constituency (GRC). The GRC is disbanded in the next election in 1997 and Kampong Glam SMC was recreated. Jaffna (, ) is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is the administrative headquarters of the Jaffna District located on a peninsula of the same name. Vaddukoddai (also spelt Vattukkottai, Vatukotai, Vattukotai) ( ta, வட்டுக்கோட்டை, si, වඩුකෝඩයි) is small but important town in the minority group, minority Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamil dominated Jaffna peninsula of Sri Lanka. Raffles Institution (RI) is an independent educational institution in Singapore. Founded in 1823, it is the oldest school in the country. The self-governance of Singapore was carried out in several stages. Since the founding of Singapore in 1819, Singapore had been under the colonial rule of the United Kingdom.
