Sindal Municipality was a municipality ( da, kommune) in Denmark. It was located on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark and belonged to North Jutland County. It was abolished effective 1 January 2007. The municipal seat was located in the town of Sindal. Geography The former Sindal municipality covered an area of 242 km², and had a total population of 9,425 (2005). North Jutland County
North Jutland County ( da, Nordjyllands Amt) is a former county (Danish: ''amt'') in northern Denmark. It was located on the eastern half of Vendsyssel-Thy and the northernmost part of the Jutland peninsula. It was the largest county in Denmark, but with a relatively low population. The county seat was Aalborg, Denmark's fourth largest city. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into North Denmark Region ( da, Region Nordjylland). Counties Of Denmark
The Counties of Denmark ( da, Danmarks amter) were former subdivisions of metropolitan Denmark and overseas territories, used primarily for administrative regions, with each county having its own council with substantial powers. Originally there had been twenty-four counties, but the number was reduced to roughly fourteen in 1970 – the number fluctuated slightly over the next three decades. In 2006 there were thirteen traditional counties as well as three municipalities with county status (the island of Bornholm, which was a county from 1660 until 2002, became a ''regional municipality'' with county powers, but only briefly from 2003 until 2006). A municipality is usually a single administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction as granted by national and regional laws to which it is subordinate. Vendsyssel-Thy
The North Jutlandic Island (), Vendsyssel-Thy, or Jutland north of the Limfjord (''Jylland nord for Limfjorden''), is the northernmost part of Denmark and of Jutland. It is more common to refer to the three traditional districts Vendsyssel, Hanherred and Thy, however. The area has been intermittently a tied island, and during modern times was not surrounded by water until a storm in February 1825, which severed the region from the remainder of Jutland and caused a water connection between the North Sea and the western end of the Limfjord. Hence it is traditionally regarded as a part of Jutland rather than a separate island. Geographically, it is the second largest island of Denmark after Zealand (excluding Greenland) with a population of 294,424 on 1 January 2020. 309,834 lived on the island in 1981. Sindal is a railway town on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. It has a population of 3,095 (1 January 2022) and is located in Hjørring Municipality in Region Nordjylland. Until 1 January 2007 Sindal was also the seat of Sindal Municipality which was merged with existing Hjørring, Løkken-Vrå, and Hirtshals municipalities to form an enlarged Hjørring Municipality. Hirtshals Municipality was a municipality ( da, kommune) in Denmark. It was located on the west and north coast of the Jutland peninsula and belonged to North Jutland County. It was abolished effective 1 January 2007. The municipal seat was located in the town of Hirtshals. Its last mayor was Knud Størup (independent). Løkken-Vrå
Løkken-Vrå was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in the North Jutland County, Denmark until January 1, 2007. It was located on the northwest coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy on the northern Jutland peninsula. The municipality covered an area of , and had a total population of 8,828 (2005). The two main towns were Vrå and Løkken, where Vrå acted as the seat of the municipal council. Hjørring Municipality
Hjørring Municipality is a municipality (Danish: '' kommune'') in North Jutland Region on the west coast of the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , making it the largest in Vendsyssel, and it has a total population of 67,121 (2008).
