Gumla District
Gumla district is one of the twenty-four districts of Jharkhand state, India, and Gumla town is the administrative headquarters of this district. Etymology For centuries, the place was a meeting center for people from the hinterland who flocked here to exchange goods using the barter system, and the place was called ''Gaw-Mela''. Gumla is believed to derive its name from ''Gaw-Mela'', which consists of two words of Hindi (also used in several local dialects), namely, ''Gaw'' (cows and the cattle) and'' Mela'', that is, a fair. Kariya Munda (born 20 April 1936) is an Indian politician and the former Deputy Speaker of the 15th Lok Sabha. He has been a former minister in the Government of India, in the Governments led by the Janata Party in 1977 and by Bhartiya Janata Party, from 1999 onwards. Early life Munda was born in Khunti district, near the State capital of Ranchi of Jharkhand state in India. Khunti is among the predominantly tribal belt in the central-eastern part of India. Incidentally, the village 'Ulihatu' near Khunti, is also the birthplace of the legendary, great tribal leader called Birsa Munda. Niral Enem Horo (1925–2008) was an Indian politician and a former member of the Lok Sabha. He represented Khunti in 4th and 5th Lok Sabha. He was associated with the Jharkhand Party and served as a minister in the government of Bihar. He was the losing candidate for Vice President of India in the 1974 election. Early life Horo was born on March 31, 1925, to Abraham Horo at Govindpur village, Ranchi district. He began his education at Zila School, Ranchi.
