Shivaji Nagar (Pune) Metro Station
Shivajinagar is an underground metro station on the North-South corridor of the Purple Line of Pune Metro in Pune, India. The station was opened on 1 August 2023 as an extension of Pune Metro Phase I. Currently Purple Line is operational between PCMC and Civil Court. This station will serve as an interchange for Line 3 of Pune Metro which will operate from Civil Court to Megapolis Circle. The station contains 5 lifts, 12 escalators and a tunnel ventilation system. Its exterior is inspired by a fort from the era of Shivaji Maharaj, whereas the interior features elements from the Peshwa era. Two subways have been proposed to connect the metro station with Shivajinagar railway station and University Road. The work on Line 3 from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi is being executed under a public–private partnership model with Tata Group and Siemens. It is expected to be fully operational from April 2025. Shivajinagar, Pune
Shivajinagar (also known as Bhambwade, Bhamburde) is an suburb of the city of Pune, India. History The area has a very long history with the 8th-century Rashtrakuta-era cave temple of Pataleshwar being the oldest manmade structure in Pune. Shivajinagar was earlier a village known as Bhambwade, with the name changing over time to Bhamburde. During the Peshwa era, a handmade paper factory operated in Bhamburde. It is believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj visited the Rokdoba temple in the village and stayed at the Shirole family home, Shirole Wada. During the Maratha and British eras, the village Patil (head/chief) came from the Shiledar Shirole ( Patil) family, members of which also served as Shiledar (warriors) in the Maratha army. Shivaji Bhonsale I (; 19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680), also referred to as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji carved out his own independent kingdom from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur which formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. Shivajinagar railway station (earlier Bhamburde railway station) is a train station serving Shivajinagar (earlier Bhamburde) suburb of Pune. It has two platforms. This is a halt for suburban trains of Pune. The station is also halt for trains from Mumbai to . Peshwa
The Peshwa (Pronunciation: e(ː)ʃʋaː was the appointed (later becoming hereditary) prime minister of the Maratha Empire of the Indian subcontinent. Originally, the Peshwas served as subordinates to the Chhatrapati (the Maratha king); later, under the Bhat family, they became the ''de facto'' leaders of the Maratha Confederacy, with the Chhatrapati becoming a nominal ruler.
