Highway 560 (Ontario)
Secondary Highway 560, commonly referred to as Highway 560, is a provincially maintained secondary highway in the northern section of the Canadian province of Ontario. It begins in the west at an intersection with Highway 144 and the Sultan Industrial Road and proceeds east to Highway 11 at Englehart. Highway560 was established, along with many of the secondary highways in Ontario, in 1956. It was extended westward to Ontario Highway 144 in 1965. Aside from minor realignments along its isolated route, the route has remained unchanged since then. Route description Highway560 is a remote route through some of the most isolated parts of Northeastern Ontario, spanning between Highway144, where the road continues west as the Sultan Industrial Road, and Highway11 at Englehart. The Sudbury District is a district in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created in 1894 from townships of eastern Algoma District and west Nipissing District. The overwhelming majority of the district (about 92%) is unincorporated and part of Unorganized North Sudbury District. With the exception of Chapleau, Ontario, Chapleau, all of the district's incorporated municipalities are found in the area immediately surrounding the city of Greater Sudbury to the west, east and south. North of the Greater Sudbury area, the district is sparsely populated; between Sudbury and Chapleau, only unincorporated settlements, ghost towns and small First Nations in Canada, First Nations reserves are found. West Shining Tree Lake
West Shining Tree Lake is a lake in the Unorganized North Sudbury District of Ontario, Canada. It lies about west of East Shining Tree Lake. The community of Shining Tree lies on its east shore. Location The community of Shining Tree lies on Highway 560, in Northern Ontario, which runs west from Highway 11 to Highway 144. It is midway between Sudbury to the south and Timmins to the north. The lake may also be accessed by float plane. West Shining Tree Lake is connected to five other lakes through narrow passages. The lake has over of highly irregular shoreline. There are many islands, channels and bays. In the past West Shining Tree Lake was on an Ojibway canoe route from Bear Island, Temagami, to the Mattagami First Nation, north of Gogama. The Ojibway named the area "Wasakwagama", meaning White Tree Water, after the many white birches growing there, particularly on McRae Island. Unorganized North Sudbury District is an unorganized area in the Canadian province of Ontario, comprising all portions of the Sudbury District which are not organized into incorporated municipalities. Despite its name, there is no longer an accompanying "South Part", as that subdivision has subsequently been incorporated into municipalities and Statistics Canada has not renamed the North Part. The subdivision consists of three non-contiguous areas, totalling 35,594.71 square kilometres, or about 92% of the district. It had a population of 2,306 in the Canada 2011 Census.
