Sherwood Public Library
Sherwood Public Library is the library serving Sherwood in the U.S. state of Oregon. Operated by the city, it is a member of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services. Established in 1935, it has an annual circulation of around 370,000 items. History The Sherwood library was started in 1935 in a drugstore, initially with a single shelf. The city took over the library in 1969, which by then had been moved to a house. The city moved it to the basement of City Hall, then located in the Morback House. In 1976, Sherwood's Friends of the Library was started. The friends group started raising funds for a new library in 1981. Groundbreaking on the new building was on May 22, 1985, after raising $106,000. The new, building designed by Terry Tollen opened in December 1985 on North Sherwood Boulevard. Sherwood, Oregon
Sherwood is a city in Washington County, Oregon, United States. Located in the southeast corner of the county, it is a residential community in the Tualatin Valley, southwest of Portland. As of the 2010 census, Sherwood had a population of 18,194 residents. The city's population for 2019 was estimated to be 19,879 by the U.S. Census. Sherwood was first incorporated in 1893 as a town. Originally named Smockville after its founder, James Christopher Smock, the town was given its current name by local businessman Robert Alexander in 1891. The name "Sherwood" may have come from Sherwood, Michigan or the Sherwood Forest in England. Washington County Cooperative Library Services
Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) is the library system serving Washington County, Oregon. WCCLS distributes tax funds to libraries. It was established in 1975. Libraries WCCLS is made up of 16 libraries which are operated by 13 cities and non-profit organizations. Past WCCLS-affiliated libraries included ones in the former Tanasbourne Mall (when the Tanasbourne area was unincorporated) and, in the 1970s, Aloha Park Library, located in Aloha Park school, which was open to the public one night a week. In 2019, the Oregon College of Art & Craft Library closed along with the rest of the college. Additionally, the Tuality Health Resource Center closed in August. These specialty libraries had been affiliated with WCCLS for many years, and some of their collection was distributed to other libraries in the county.
