Sherwood Park is a large hamlet (place)#Canada, hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County that is recognized as an urban service area. It is located adjacent to the City of Edmonton's eastern boundary, generally south of Alberta Highway 16, Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail), west of Alberta Highway 21, Highway 21 and north of Alberta Highway 630, Highway 630 (Wye Road). Other portions of Sherwood Park extend beyond Yellowhead Trail and Wye Road, while Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) separates Refinery Row (Edmonton), Refinery Row to the west from the balance of the hamlet to the east. Sherwood Park was established in 1955 on farmland of the Smeltzer family, east of Edmonton. With a population of 72,017 in 2021, Sherwood Park has enough people to be List of cities in Alberta, Alberta's sixth largest city, but it retains the status of a hamlet. Refinery Row is the unofficial name given to the concentration of oil refineries in west Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Alberta, just east of the city of Edmonton. It is a heavily travelled commuter and truck bypass route with the southwest quadrant serving as a portion of the CANAMEX Corridor that links Canada to the United States and Mexico.
