Refinery Row (Edmonton)
Refinery Row is the unofficial name given to the concentration of oil refineries in west Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Alberta, just east of the city of Edmonton. The area is roughly bounded on the south by the Sherwood Park Freeway (Highway 100), on the north by the North Saskatchewan River and Yellowhead Trail (Highway 16), on the east by Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216), and on the west by 50 Street. Other major roads that run through the area include: 34 Street, 17 Street NW, and 101 Avenue/Baseline Road. Edmonton Tornado
The Edmonton tornado of 1987, an event also known as Black Friday to Edmontonians, was a powerful and devastating tornado that ripped through the eastern parts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and parts of neighbouring Strathcona County on the afternoon of Friday, July 31, 1987. It was one of seven other tornadoes in central Alberta the same day. The tornado peaked at F4 on the Fujita scale and remained on the ground for an hour, cutting a swath of destruction in length and up to wide in some places. Strathcona County is a specialized municipality in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region within Alberta, Canada between Edmonton and Elk Island National Park. It forms part of Census Division No. 11.
