Sharon Slater
Sharon Slater is an Irish historian and author. Her work primarily focuses on the history of Limerick, Ireland using the name Limerick's Life. Following a mentorship from Frank Prendergast she attended the University of Limerick and received an MA in Local History. She is currently Historian-in-Residence at Ormston House. She writes for the Limerick Post. She previously wrote for the Limerick Leader (2018), ''Limerick Life Newspaper'' (2016-2017), ''Limerick Magazine'' (2015-2016). She has appeared as a history expert on television and radio including Creedon's Shannon and Doc on One. In 2018, she was recognised with a mayoral reception, by Councillor Sean Lynch, Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Limerick, for her work to promote Limerick's history. She was awarded the National Heritage Hero Award for 2017 from Heritage Council Ireland. Limerick
Limerick ( ; ga, Luimneach ) is a western city in Ireland situated within County Limerick. It is in the province of Munster and is located in the Mid-West which comprises part of the Southern Region. With a population of 94,192 at the 2016 census, Limerick is the third-most populous urban area in the state, and the fourth-most populous city on the island of Ireland at the 2011 census. The city lies on the River Shannon, with the historic core of the city located on King's Island, which is bounded by the Shannon and Abbey Rivers. Limerick Chamber of Commerce also known as Limerick Chamber, was founded in 1805 Ireland. It is a business representative and lobbying organization that is in business for its 450+ members. The current President is Donnacha Hurley manager of the Absolute Hotel. The Limerick Chamber was formally constituted by Charter on 2 June 1815, the Chamber was incorporated by a Royal Charter by King George III, under the title of ‘the Chamber of Commerce of Limerick'. In 1833, the Chamber moved to its present premises at 96 O'Connell Street. It is one of the five oldest chambers of commerce in Ireland and the UK at the time of its foundation. Matthew Potter
Matthew Potter is an Irish academic who serves as the current curator of Limerick Museum. He is a published historian with a primary focus on governmental history and is an Honorary Fellow of the Department of History of the University of Limerick. Potter has also focused on discovering links between Limerick the place and limerick the poem. He was educated in the Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town and the Crescent College, Limerick City. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of London and a Doctor of Philosophy in history from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Limerick Archives (formerly Limerick Regional Archives/Limerick City Archives) is part of Limerick City and County Council. Its purpose is to collect and preserve archival material relating to Limerick city, and to make these archives freely available to the public. The physical archives are held in the County Library, Dooradoyle. Limerick Pride
Limerick Pride is a week-long annual event in Limerick, Ireland. Although its history dates back to 2001, with the first official pride event, the Pride parade was not introduced until 2007. The Pride parade took place in September from 2007 until 2013. It was moved to July in 2014 to avoid clashing with the Royal de Luxe event in September that year. The festival was made a week-long event in 2008. Frank Prendergast
Francis Joseph Prendergast (13 July 1933 – 19 February 2015) was an Irish lecturer and Labour Party politician who served for four years in Dáil Éireann, as a Teachta Dála (TD) for Limerick East. He also served two terms as Mayor of Limerick city. Prendergast was an Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) official. The Heritage Council ( ga, An Comhairle Oidhreachta) is an organisation created by the Irish government to "engage, educate and advocate to develop a wider understanding of the vital contribution that our heritage makes to our social, environmental and economic well-being."
