Sharafat Ali (singer)
Sharafat Ali (16 August 1924 – 17 April 1991) was a Pakistani singer who is known for vocalizing the song "''Jab Teray Shehar Se Guzarta Hun''" for the film ''Waada'' (1957). Life and career ''Sharafat Ali'' was born on 16 August 1924 in Rampur, British India. During his education at Aligarh Muslim University, he started singing on All India Radio. In 1948, he moved to Pakistan and settled in Lahore. ''Sharafat Ali'' was not a professional singer but his passion for music helped him earn an A-grade as a singer at All India Radio. In 1954, during a visit to India, he got an opportunity to record a ghazal for the Indian film Mirza Ghalib. In Lollywood, he sang for only one Urdu film Waada (1957), which was directed by W. Z. Ahmed. He vocalized four songs for the film under the direction of musician Rashid Attre. A song from the film "''Jab Teray Shehar Se Guzarta Hon''" got iconic fame across the country. Tufail Hoshiarpuri (14 July 1914 – 4 January 1993) was a film song lyricist and a poet from Pakistan. Early life and career Muhammad Tufail was born on 14 July 1914 in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, British India. His name later was changed to Tufail Hoshiarpuri as his professional name. He started his career as a school teacher in his hometown Hoshiarpur, British India. As the call for the British to quit India grew, the Pakistan movement and the All India Muslim League gained popularity. Tufail Hoshiarpuri started reading patriotic poems in Muslim League political gatherings. British authorities suspended him from his job as a school teacher. Agha Saleem Raza, a film actor at that time, introduced him to some film producers and he, therefore, launched his career as a film song lyricist in 1946. Saifuddin Saif (20 July 1922 12 July 1993) was a Pakistani lyricist, poet, film producer-director, and the founder of Rehnuma Films, a film studio of 1954. He was involved in writing poems and lyrics before and after the Partition. However, most of his films written before partition remained unreleased due to political instabilities in the subcontinent. He was best known for his film Kartar Singh, and is also credited for writing lyrics for Pakistan's historical and first-ever feature film '' Teri Yaad'', which helped him to appear among the prominent writers. Lollywood ( ur, , translit=lâli vuḍ) refers to Pakistan's film industry based in Lahore, previously the base for both Punjabi and Urdu language film production.
