Seyni Garba
Major General Seyni Garba (born 1 January 1953, in Garankedey, Dosso Region, Niger) is a Nigerien army general. He completed his primary and secondary education at Dosso and at the Korombé High School in Niamey between 1966 and 1974, before attending the Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey, Maths-Physics section in 1974. Dosso Region
Dosso is one of the eight Regions of Niger. The region has an area of , with a population of 2,078,339 as of 2011. History The region of Dosso is the historic centre of the Dosso Kingdom, which had its capital at Dosso. Today the palace of the Sultanate of Dosso remains as a symbol of the aristocratic ruling class of the kingdom. The region was traditionally populated by Zarma people who are believed to have migrated from the Lake Débo area of what is now Mali during the time of the Songhai Empire. Geography Dosso border Tahoua Region to the northeast, Nigeria to the southeast (specifically Sokoto State and Kebbi State), Benin (Alibori Department) to the southwest, and Tillabéri Region to the northwest. Abdou Moumouni University (French: Université Abdou Moumouni de Niamey, UAM) was formerly the University of Niamey from 1974 to 1994. On the right bank of the Niger River in Niamey, its students and faculty have historically been involved in protest movements in the capital. Enrollment The university had a total enrollment of around 8,000 in early 2007; 7,000 as of June 2006, which was a growth of 1,000 over the previous decade. Name The university is named after former Professor Abdou Moumouni Dioffo, a Nigerien educator, intellectual, and president of the university. The Niger Armed Forces (french: Forces armées nigériennes) (FAN) includes military armed force service branches (Niger Army and Niger Air Force), paramilitary services branches ( National Gendarmerie of Niger and National Guard of Niger) and the National Police.
