Setanta Sports Cup 2008
The 2008 Setanta Sports Cup was the 4th staging of the cross-border cup competition featuring football clubs from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Setanta Sports Cup
The Setanta Sports Cup was a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. Inaugurated in 2005, it was a cross-border competition between clubs in the League of Ireland from the Republic of Ireland and the NIFL Premiership from Northern Ireland. The cup was sponsored by Setanta Sports, the Irish subscription sports television network. The competition was discontinued after the 2014 edition. A successor competition, the Champions Cup, was announced in 2019. History The Setanta Cup was the first cross-border competition since 1980. Drogheda
Drogheda ( , ; , meaning "bridge at the ford") is an industrial and port town in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland, north of Dublin. Donegal Celtic Park, also known as Suffolk Road and Celtic Park or more recently the New Suffolk Road after its recent expansion, is the home of amateur league team Donegal Celtic. Denis Behan
Denis Behan (born 2 January 1984) is an Irish football coach and former player who played as a forward. He spent many years playing for League of Ireland clubs Cork City and Limerick, as well as in the English Football League for Hartlepool United. Youth level Behan has won under age level Munster Youths and Munster Senior Cup medals, and was part of Cork City's run of two consecutive Under 21 League of Ireland. Graham Gartland
Graham Gartland (born 13 July 1983) is an Irish football coach and former player. He played for Drogheda United, Shamrock Rovers, Home Farm, Barnsley, Dundee United, St Patrick's Athletic, Longford Town and St Johnstone. Gartland also played for the Republic of Ireland B national football team. Playing career Gartland scored a goal for Drogheda in a UEFA Cup tie against HJK Helsinki in August 2006. Tony Grant (born 20 August 1976) is an Irish professional footballer who last played for Duleek. Career Early years Starting as a trainee with Leeds United, Grant signed for Preston North End in November 1995. He was loaned out to Glenavon, making a permanent move to the Lurgan club in January 1997; he scored the only goal in their Irish Cup final win over Cliftonville the same year. League of Ireland Grant signed for Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2000 and scored on his debut for the club in August of that year. David Mooney (born 30 October 1984) is an Irish footballer who has played for several clubs in Ireland and the United Kingdom. As of 2019, he was playing as a striker for Leinster Senior League side Lucan United. Club career Shamrock Rovers Mooney joined Shamrock Rovers, his first senior club, in 2000, while he was a pupil in Coláiste Éanna, in Dublin. Solitude is a Association football, football stadium in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the oldest football stadium in Ireland, and the home ground of Ireland's oldest football club, Cliftonville F.C., Cliftonville. The stadium holds 6,224, but is currently restricted to 2,530 under safety legislation. The stadium was built in 1890 and has undergone several renovations.
