Tony Grant (Irish Footballer)
Tony Grant (born 20 August 1976) is an Irish professional footballer who last played for Duleek. Career Early years Starting as a trainee with Leeds United, Grant signed for Preston North End in November 1995. He was loaned out to Glenavon, making a permanent move to the Lurgan club in January 1997; he scored the only goal in their Irish Cup final win over Cliftonville the same year. League of Ireland Grant signed for Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2000 and scored on his debut for the club in August of that year. He was presented with the Player of the Year award at the end of his first season with the club. During his career with the "Hoops", he scored several decisive goals against rivals, Bohemians, including the only goal in Dalymount Park's centenary game and a back-heeled winner in another 2001 derby, at Richmond Park. Drogheda
Drogheda ( , ; , meaning "bridge at the ford") is an industrial and port town in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland, north of Dublin. It is located on the Dublin–Belfast corridor on the east coast of Ireland, mostly in County Louth but with the south fringes of the town in County Meath, north of Dublin. Setanta Cup
The Setanta Sports Cup was a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. Inaugurated in 2005, it was a cross-border competition between clubs in the League of Ireland from the Republic of Ireland and the NIFL Premiership from Northern Ireland. The cup was sponsored by Setanta Sports, the Irish subscription sports television network. The competition was discontinued after the 2014 edition. A successor competition, the Champions Cup, was announced in 2019. History The Setanta Cup was the first cross-border competition since 1980. The League of Ireland ( ga, Sraith na hÉireann), together with the Football Association of Ireland, is one of the two main governing bodies responsible for organising association football in the Republic of Ireland. The term was originally used to refer to a single division league. However today the League of Ireland features five divisions – the Premier Division, the First Division, U19 Division, U17 Division, U15 Division and starting U13 Division. Adrian Harper (born 4 May 1985) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Bluebell United. Career Early years Starting as a trainee with Sheffield United, Harper was captain of the youth and reserve teams for 3 years. He was loaned out to Scarborough Fc, making 5 appearances. After 5 years at Sheffield United Harper was released and signed for Glenavon Fc where he made a permanent move to the Lurgan club in October 2006. Irish League Harper signed for Glenavon in October 2006 and scored his first goals for the club in January 2007 with a brace against Ballymena. During that season Glenavon avoided relegation with a penalty shoot out play off victory against Bangor, a game which saw Harper red carded in injury time. Glenavon
Glenavon Football Club is a Northern Irish semi-professional football club that competes in the NIFL Premiership. Founded in 1889, the club hails from Lurgan and plays its home matches at Mourneview Park. Club colours are blue and white. Gary Hamilton has been player-manager of the Lurgan Blues since December 2011 following the resignation of Marty Quinn. Glenavon's bitter rivals are Portadown, with their matches known as the "Mid-Ulster Derby". Setanta Sports Cup 2007
The 2007 Setanta Sports Cup was the 3rd staging of the Setanta Sports Cup, a cross-border cup competition that took place between football (soccer), football clubs from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The final was played at Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 12 May 2007, and was won by Drogheda United F.C., Drogheda United with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Linfield F.C., Linfield when the scores were level at 1–1 after extra time. Drogheda won the trophy for the second successive year. Shelbourne's withdrawal The draw for the 2007 Setanta Cup competition was made on 7 December 2006 with the original competing teams being the identical ones to the previous year's competition.
