Sergey Tarasov (snowboarder)
Sergey Tarasov (born 5 September 1988 in St. Petersburg) is a Russian snowboarder, specializing in the halfpipe. Tarasov competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Russia. He placed 36th in the qualifying round of the halfpipe, not advancing. Snowboarding is a recreational and competitive activity that involves descending a snow-covered surface while standing on a snowboard that is almost always attached to a rider's feet. Halfpipe
A half-pipe is a structure used in gravity extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, skiing, freestyle BMX, skating, and scooter riding. Overview The structure resembles a cross-section of a swimming pool, essentially two concave ramps (or quarter-pipes), topped by copings and decks, facing each other across a flat transition, also known as a ''tranny''. Originally half-pipes were half sections of a large diameter pipe. Since the 1980s, half-pipes contain an extended ''flat bottom'' between the quarter-pipes. The original style half-pipes are no longer built. Flat ground provides time to regain balance after landing and more time to prepare for the next trick. Half-pipe applications include leisure recreation, skills development, competitive training, amateur and professional competition, demonstrations, and as an adjunct to other types of skills training. The men's halfpipe competition of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was held at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on 11 February 2014. The gold was won by Swiss Iouri Podladtchikov, who was followed by two Japanese snowboarders, the 15-year-old Ayumu Hirano in silver and Taku Hiraoka in bronze. FIS Snowboard World Cup
The FIS Snowboard World Cup is an annual snowboarding competition, arranged by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1994. Since its inauguration, different disciplines have been added and removed, along with categories used to group them. Currently disciplines contested in the World Cup are: ''Parallel Giant Slalom'' and ''Parallel Slalom'' (grouped into Parallel category), ''Halfpipe'', ''Big Air'' and ''Slopestyle'' (grouped into AFU category) and the discipline-category of Snowboard Cross. Most of these disciplines have been contested on and off throughout the years. The 2011–12 FIS Snowboard World Cup was a multi race tournament over a season for snowboarding. The season started on 28 August 2011 and ended on 17 March 2012. The World Cup was organised by the FIS which also runs world cups and championships in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, and freestyle skiing. The FIS Snowboarding World Cup consisted of the parallel slalom, snowboard cross and the halfpipe. The men's side of the world cup also consisted of three big air competitions.
