Serbia Against Violence (coalition)
Serbia Against Violence ( sr-Cyrl, Србија против насиља, Srbija protiv nasilja, abbr. SPN) is an opposition coalition of political parties in Serbia. Formalised in October 2023, SPN took part in the parliamentary, Vojvodina provincial, Belgrade City Assembly elections and elections for city assemblies in other cities, all of which were held on 17 December 2023. The SPN was formed out of the Serbia Against Violence protests that began after the Belgrade elementary school and Mladenovac and Smederevo mass shootings in May 2023. The cooperation between the parties organising the protests increased during the protests, leading them to create a coalition. Marinika Tepić and Miroslav Aleksić were announced as the representatives for the parliamentary election while Vladimir Obradović and Dobrica Veselinović were announced as the representatives for the Belgrade City Assembly election. Marinika Tepić
Marinika Tepić (; sr-Cyrl, Мариника Тепић, ; born 8 August 1974) is a Serbian politician. She is a vice-president of the Party of Freedom and Justice (''Stranka slobode i pravde'', SSP) and a prominent figure in the opposition to Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić. Tepić was Secretary for Sports and Youth in the Government of Vojvodina from 2012 to 2016 and a member of the National Assembly of Serbia from 2016 to 2020. Prior to joining the SSP on its formation in 2019, she was at different times a member of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (''Liga socijaldemokrata Vojvodine'', LSV) and the New Party (''Nova stranka'', NOVA). 2023 Serbian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the National Assembly (Serbia), National Assembly. While they were initially scheduled to be held by 30 April 2026, Aleksandar Vučić, the president of Serbia, called a snap election in November 2023. 2023 Serbian Protests
In May 2023, a series of mass protests began in Belgrade and other locations in Serbia, following Belgrade school shooting, a school shooting in Belgrade and Mladenovac and Smederevo shootings, a spree shooting near Mladenovac and Smederevo. The protests, named Serbia Against Violence ( sr-cyr, Србија против насиља, Srbija protiv nasilja), had been attended by tens of thousands of demonstrators on every protest since 8 May. Serbian Progressive Party
The Serbian Progressive Party ( sr-cyrl, Српска напредна странка, Srpska napredna stranka, SNS) has been the ruling political party of Serbia since 2012. Founded by Tomislav Nikolić and Aleksandar Vučić in 2008 as a split from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the SNS served in opposition to the Democratic Party (DS) for the next several years. Mladenovac And Smederevo Shootings
On the evening of 4 May 2023, a shooting spree occurred in the villages of Dubona near Mladenovac, and Malo Orašje near Smederevo, Serbia. Armed with an automatic assault rifle, the shooter opened fire from a car, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals, including an off-duty police officer, and leaving twelve others injured. The suspect, 20-year-old Uroš Blažić, fled the scene but was apprehended the next day near Kragujevac. Following the incident, Blažić's father, uncle, and first cousin were also taken into custody, facing charges related to criminal possession of a weapon. Uncle and first cousin were tried separately from the rest. First cousin was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison, while uncle was acquitted. Belgrade School Shooting
On 3 May 2023, a school shooting occurred at Vladislav Ribnikar Model Elementary School in the Vračar municipality of Belgrade, Serbia. The shooter, identified as a 13-year-old male student, mass shooting, opened fire on students and staff, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals, including nine students and a security guard. Six others, five students and a teacher, also sustained injuries. The shooter surrendered willingly and was taken into custody. However, due to his age being below 14, which falls below Serbia's age of criminal responsibility, the shooter could not face legal charges.
