Sennar Offensive
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has waged a major offensive against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Sennar State, resulting in widespread violence and displacement, as part of the ongoing Sudanese civil war. Background The conflict in Sudan has been ongoing since April 2023, when tensions between the SAF and the RSF escalated into open warfare. Offensive The Sennar Offensive began with the RSF attacking the village of Jebal Moya in Sennar province. The conflict soon spread to the provincial capital of Singa, where intense fighting erupted. RSF fighters in pickup trucks mounted with automatic rifles rampaged through Singa, looting houses and shops, and taking over the city's main hospital. A civil war between two rival factions of the military government of Sudan, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under the Janjaweed leader Hemedti, began during Ramadan on 15 April 2023. Kassala ( ar, ولاية كسلا, called ''Ash Sharqiyah'' during 1991—1994) is one of the 18 ''wilayat'' (states) of Sudan. Blue Nile State
Blue Nile ( ar, النيل الأزرق ') is one of the eighteen States of Sudan, states of the Republic of the Sudan. It was established by presidential decree nº 3 in 1992 and is named after the Blue Nile River. The region is host to around forty different ethnic groups. Its economic activity is based on agriculture and livestock and increasing mineral exploitation. In 2011, residents of Blue Nile were scheduled to hold ill-defined "popular consultations" to determine the constitutional future of the state, per the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Al Qadarif State
Al Qadarif ( '), also spelt ''Gadaref'' or ''Gadarif'', is one of the 18 wilayat or states of Sudan. It has an area of 75,263 km2 and an estimated population of approximately 1,400,000 (2000). Al Qadarif is the capital of the state; other towns include Doka and Gallabat. Singa, Sudan
Singa ( ar, سنجة) is a town located in the Sennar State of Sudan at an elevation of above sea level. The town is situated on the west bank of the Blue Nile at a distance of to the southeast of the capital, Khartoum, and 60 kilometers from Sennar city. Its population was recorded to be 259,000 in 2002. Singa, also spelled Sinjah, is possibly the capital of Sennar State and is characterized by the diversity of its natural environment, habitat, water resources, and livestock. Sennar
Sennar ( ar, سنار ') is a city on the Blue Nile in Sudan and possibly the capital of the state of Sennar. It remains publicly unclear whether Sennar or Singa is the capital of Sennar State. For several centuries it was the capital of the Funj Kingdom of Sennar. Overview Sennar had an estimated population of 100,000 inhabitants in the early 19th century.
