Johor
Johor (; ), also spelled as Johore, is a States and federal territories of Malaysia, state of Malaysia in the south of the Malay Peninsula. Johor has land borders with the Malaysian states of Pahang to the north and Malacca and Negeri Sembilan to the northwest. Johor shares maritime borders with Singapore to the south and Indonesia to both the west and east. Bekok
Bekok is a mukim in Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia. It is the western entrance to Endau Rompin National Park and has a waterfall known as Sungai Bantang Waterfall. Bekok also houses several aborigine settlements ''(Perkampungan Orang Asli)'', such as Kampung Kudong and Kampung Kemidak. During the pre-independence period, this small town was a "Black Area" known for strong communist resistance against the British government. Name The town's name probably originally arrived from the Hakka dialect word "Mukok", which means "the corner", where the town is in fact a remote town located roughly about 10 km from the junction of the Federal Route 1 and later accessible via railway. Pasir Gudang is a city in Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. The main industries are transportation and logistics, shipbuilding, petrochemicals and other heavy industries, and oil palm storage and distribution, which is located in Johor Port and Tanjung Langsat. History Established in 1918, Pasir Gudang, which was formerly known as Kampung Pasir Udang, was founded by Long Abu who is believed to have originated from Riau, Indonesia. Skudai
Skudai (also spelled Sekudai) is a suburb in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. Skudai is part of the new growth corridor of southwest Johor. Its population ranges between 160,000 and 210,000. It houses the Paradigm Mall Johor and the headquarters of the Iskandar Puteri City Council, and is home to the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia campus. Gelang Patah
Gelang Patah is a suburb in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. It was administered by ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional for over 5 decades until the 13th Malaysian General Elections. One of its schools, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gelang Patah is also featured in the School Programme by its government. The town is well-known for its otak-otak and seafood. Pekan Nanas
Pekan Town is a town in Pekan District, Pahang, Malaysia. It is also the royal capital of the state. Its name comes from a flower, the '' Bunga Pekan''. Pekan is also the name of the district the town is situated in, and a parliamentary constituency in its own right. It is the home of the state's royal family headed by Sultan Abdullah of Pahang. It is also the hometown of the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, and his son, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Yong Peng
Yong Peng is a town in Mukim Tanjung Semberong, Batu Pahat District, Johor, Malaysia. It has an area of 1911.6 hectares with an estimated population of 29,046. History During the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor and under the influence of the British rule in the 1870s, a policy was initiated to modernise Johor and increase tax revenue by opening up more of the forest and swamp area for plantation purposes (initially for spices such as pepper and gambier; then followed by rubber). But to do so, they need massive number of workers. Coincidentally the political and social chaos in Southern China during that period (ref: History of China) made the Chinese migrants an obvious choice. SMK Datin Onn Jaafar
''Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datin Onn Jaafar (SMKDOJ)'' is better known as DOJ or ''Pesta'' by most of the residents in Batu Pahat, and was established in early 1977. The first schooling session started on 1 January 1978. It is located in Batu Pahat on a land area of 10 acres (4 hectares). The school began construction in early 1977 and was completed in the same year. The school was previously named as ''Sekolah Rendah Bandar Penggaram''. The name was later changed to ''Sekolah Menengah Datin Halimah'' in commemoration of the wife of former Menteri Besar, Johor Dato Onn Jaafar, father of the third Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Hussein Onn,. However, the PM's wife disagreed with this and it was later changed to ''Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datin Onn Jaafar'', a name it still retains.
