Sebastian Wolf (artist)
Sebastian Wolf (born 1989) is a German Media artist and designer. In his work he explores "novel technologies and their inherent aesthetic and emotional potential" through interactive kinetic and light installations, usually incorporating natural elements. He lives and works in Berlin. Early life and education Wolf holds a BFA in Media Art from Bauhaus University and a postgraduate degree in New Media from Berlin University of the Arts where he studied under Professor Joachim Sauter. He also studied Art & Media at Tama Art University as well as Contemporary Art at Nagoya Zokei University in Japan. Work Wolf's work has been shown internationally, most notably at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, Tokyo, the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and frequently at the Ars Electronica Festival, Linz. Brackets
A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Bauhaus University, Weimar
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is a university located in Weimar, Germany, and specializes in the artistic and technical fields. Established in 1860 as the Great Ducal Saxon Art School, it gained collegiate status on 3 June 1910. In 1919 the school was renamed Bauhaus by its new director Walter Gropius and it received its present name in 1996. There are more than 4000 students enrolled, with the percentage of international students above the national average at around 27%. In 2010 the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar commemorated its 150th anniversary as an art school and college in Weimar. In 2019 the university celebrated the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, together with partners all over the world. Japan Media Arts Festival
The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Based on judging by a jury of artistic peers, awards are given in four categories: Art (formerly called Non-Interactive Digital Art), Entertainment (formerly called Interactive Art; including video games and websites), animation, and manga. Within each category, one Grand Prize, four Excellence Prizes, and (since 2002) one Encouragement Prize are awarded. Other outstanding works, are selected by the Jury as Jury Selections. The winning works of the four categories will receive a certificate, a trophy and a cash prize. Zebrastraat
The Zebrastraat (Dutch language, Dutch for "Zebra Street") is a small street in the Belgian city of Ghent. The first worker housing building in the country, designed by the architect Charles van Rysselberghe in 1906, is located in the Zebrastraat. The building, also named the Zebrastraat after its location, remains a private project dedicated to housing, entrepreneurial, and cultural initiatives. History The Zebrastraat is located on land formerly occupied by the Ghent Zoo, which opened in 1851. When the zoo closed in 1905, the land was purchased by the city of Ghent, which used the land to create a new neighborhood. Transmediale, stylised as transmediale is an annual festival for art and digital culture in Berlin, usually held over five days at the end of January and the beginning of February. Transmediale takes the form of a conference (sometimes called a festival), an exhibition, and a film and video program that often contain or support performances and workshops. Throughout the year, transmediale is also involved in a number of long- and short-term cooperative projects via transmediale/resource. VEB Typoart was the only type foundry of East Germany. It was a state-owned enterprise ("Volkseigener Betrieb") located in Dresden. The foundry's most influential art directors were Herbert Thannhäuser (until 1963) and Albert Kapr (until 1987). History VEB Typoart was created by the government of the German Democratic Republic in 1948 through a merger of several nationalised type foundries, including J.G. The European Media Art Festival (officially abbreviated as EMAF) is an annual festival and congress for film and media art which takes place every April/May in Osnabrück, Germany. Ars Electronica Linz GmbH is an Austrian cultural, educational and scientific institute active in the field of new media art, founded in Linz in 1979. It is based at the Ars Electronica Center (AEC), which houses the Museum of the Future, in the city of Linz. Miraikan
The , simply known as the , is a museum created by Japan's Science and Technology Agency. It was opened in 2001. It is situated in a purpose-built building in the Odaiba District of Tokyo. It can be reached by the Yurikamome driverless fully automated transit system from downtown Tokyo in about 15 minutes.
