Sebastian Murphy
Sebastian Murphy (born 1990 in Ballarat, Victoria) is an apprentice Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He is the son of Champion Australian jockey Garry Murphy and is currently working under Ballarat trainer Darren Weir. Murphy rode in the 2007 Melbourne Cup aboard the Michael Moroney trained horse Sarrera. Murphy is currently ranked fourth overall in Australia for 2008, and is the leading Australian Apprentice. Ballarat, Victoria
Ballarat ( ) is a city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 Census, Ballarat had a population of 116,201, making it the third largest city in Victoria. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. Within months of Victoria separating from the colony of New South Wales in 1851, gold was discovered near Ballarat, sparking the Victorian gold rush. Darren Weir (born 1999) is a Scottish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Weir won the Scottish under-18 title in 2016 and is a three times consecutive Scottish under-21 champion indoors (2018–20). In 2019, Weir was selected for the European Bowls Championships, where he won two silver medals. He made his debut at the indoor World Championships during the 2021 World Indoor Bowls Championship. The 2007 Melbourne Cup, the 147th running of Australia's most prestigious thoroughbred horse race, was run on Tuesday, 6 November 2007, going at 3:00 pm local time (0400 UTC). Michael Moroney (horseman)
Michael Moroney is a New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. He is notable for having trained Brew to win the 2000 Melbourne Cup and many other Group One races in New Zealand and Australia. Michael's father, Denny, was also involved in the racing industry and he continued to assist Michael. Group One, Group 1, Grade I or G1 is the term used for the highest level of Thoroughbred and Standardbred stakes races in many countries. In Europe, the level of races for Thoroughbred racing is determined using the Pattern races, Pattern race system introduced in 1971 and monitored by the European Pattern Committee. To attain or maintain a Group One status, the average rating for the first four finishers in the race must be 115 or higher over a three-year period. The Stradbroke Handicap is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred open handicap horse race, run over a distance of 1,400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane in June during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
