Jan Arnoldus Schouten (28 August 1883 – 20 January 1971) was a Dutch mathematician and Professor at the Delft University of Technology. He was an important contributor to the development of tensor calculus and Ricci calculus, and was one of the founders of the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam. Biography Schouten was born in Nieuwer-Amstel to a family of eminent shipping magnates. He attended a Hogere Burger School, and later he took up studies in electrical engineering at the Delft Polytechnical School. After graduating in 1908, he worked for Siemens in Berlin and for a public utility in Rotterdam before returning to study mathematics in Delft in 1912. Willem Cornelisz Schouten ( – 1625) was a Dutch navigator for the Dutch East India Company. He was the first to sail the Cape Horn route to the Pacific Ocean. Bas Schouten (born 19 October 1994 in Hoorn) is a Dutch auto racing driver. Schouten has raced in various international racing series such as the TCR International Series and Acceleration 2014. Career After a career in karting in his home country Schouten made his auto racing debut in 2010. Schouten was included in the KNAF Talent First programme together with Steijn Schothorst and Dennis van de Laar. De 15-year-old Dutch driver ran in the amateur BMW E30 Cup in a BMW 325i E30 entered by Bas Koeten Racing. Schouten also ran six races in the Dutch Formula Ford Duratec championship. Lydia Schouten (born 1948, Leiden, Netherlands) is an internationally-known Dutch performance and video artist. Early in her career she critiqued traditional women's roles and the portrayal of women as sex objects. More recently, her work considers themes of loneliness, sex and violence. Bryan Schouten (born 10 September 1994) is a Dutch former motorcycle racer who retired at the end of the 2017 season.
