Marlies Schild
Marlies Raich (née Schild, born 31 May 1981) is a retired Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. She specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom. Schild won four Olympic medals, with silvers in the combined (2006) and slalom (2010, 2014) and a bronze in slalom (2006). She has seven World Championship medals and has won five World Cup season titles. Schild completed her World Cup career with 37 wins, all but two in slalom. She retired from international competition at age 33 in September 2014. Ski racing career Born in Admont, Styria, Schild initially preferred the downhill event. Alfred Schild
Alfred Schild (September 7, 1921 – May 24, 1977) was a leading Austrian American physicist, well known for his contributions to the Golden age of general relativity (1960–1975). Biography Schild was born in Istanbul on September 7, 1921. His parents were German-speaking Viennese Jews, but his early education was in England. Upon the outbreak of World War II Schild was interned as an enemy alien, but later allowed to travel to Canada. In 1944 he earned his B.A. at the University of Toronto, and in 1946 completed his doctorate under the direction of Leopold Infeld. Schild spent the next eleven years at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he helped to develop the first atomic clocks. As tensors are the language of general relativity, Schild wrote ''Tensor Calculus'' with John L. Synge as a textbook. Jerry Schild (September 1, 1954 – August 4, 2012) was a NASCAR driver from Houston, Texas. Career Jerry Schild was the son of local race car veteran Charles Ray and younger brother of Larry Schild. Jerry was well known in the series because he had been racing since the age of 6. Starting from modest beginnings in go-karts, he began to build a reputation as a no-nonsense racer, a trait that he continued to bring to the seat of the Jerry Schild Racing team. Bernadette Schild (born 2 January 1990) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Zell am See, Salzburg, Schild specialised in slalom and made her World Cup debut in March 2008 at Bormio. She attained her first World Cup podium in March 2013, a second place in slalom at Lenzerheide. Her second podium came nine months later, a third-place finish at Courchevel in December. Thekla Schild
Thekla Schild (1890 – 1991) was a German architect. In 1913 she became the second woman in Germany to earn a degree in architecture. Early life and education Schild was born in Karlsruhe and spent much of her youth in the Black Forest, where her father worked as a civil servant surveyor. At the age of 12 she became a student at the Girls Grammar School in Karlsruhe, which was founded in 1893 and was among the first institutions of its kind in Germany. Her favourite subjects were mathematics and Greek. She also took music lessons at a conservatory. Her parents had a progressive attitude towards the education of girls. Her mother, herself trained as a teacher and artist, encouraged Thekla's artistic inclinations. She graduated from high school in the spring of 1908. Irving Schild (born 1931) is a Belgian commercial photographer who has worked for agencies and clients. He was the primary photographer for ''MAD Magazine'' for more than five decades, from 1965 to 2017. Schild was nine years old when his family fled from Brussels, Belgium to escape the Nazis. Speaking of his father in 2019, Schild recalled, "He said as soon as the first bomb falls in Belgium, we are going to go to France.” The Schild family traveled to France, then the Alps, and finally to Rome. Martina Schild (born 26 October 1981, in Brienz) is a Swiss alpine skier competing in downhill and super-G. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, she won the silver medal in the women's downhill. Rudolph E. Schild (born 10 January 1940) is an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Center for Astrophysics Harvard & Smithsonian, who has been active since the mid-1960s. He has authored or contributed to over 250 papers, of which 150 are in refereed journals. He is married to mezzo-soprano Jane Struss, who teaches voice at Longy School of Music.
