Schalles Award
Established in 1999, both Schalles awards, one (the Schalles Award) for the best collegiate pinner in America and the other, (the Junior Schalles Award) for the best scholastic pinner, are annually presented by WIN Magazine, Cliff Keen Athletics and the NWCA. The award is named after Wade Schalles, one of American wrestling's most storied pinners and a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. During his collegiate career (1970-1974) Schalles set the NCAA record at 109 pins. Wade Schalles
Wade Schalles (born September 10, 1951) is an American former folkstyle and freestyle wrestler. In college, he represented Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He is also an accomplished black belt judoka and samboist, winning national championships in both disciplines. He created several unique wrestling techniques, including the Spladle, Lazy Man Cradle, and the Clemson Roll. In 1991, Schalles was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member. Education Schalles graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania in 1969, and then went on to graduate from Clarion University of Pennsylvvania with a secondary education degree in 1974. The Missouri Tigers intercollegiate athletics programs represent the University of Missouri, located in Columbia. The name comes from a band of armed Union Home Guards called the Fighting Tigers of Columbia who, in 1864, protected Columbia from Confederate guerrillas during the American Civil War. The University of Missouri (often referred to as Mizzou or MU) is the flagship institution of the University of Missouri System. Gable Steveson
Gable Steveson (born May 31, 2000) is an American professional wrestler and retired freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. He is currently signed to WWE, where he was appointed to the Raw brand under his real name, but has yet to have his debut match. He is the second Olympic wrestling gold medalist to be signed by the company, after Kurt Angle. In freestyle, Steveson claimed the 2020 Summer Olympic Games gold medal after defeating three-time and reigning World Champion Geno Petriashvili in the final, and defeating defending Olympic champion Taha Akgül earlier in the tournament. He was also the 2021 Pan American Continental champion, and was a three-time age-group World Champion. Mason Parris
Mason Parris (born October 1, 1999) is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 125 kilograms. In freestyle, he claimed the 2019 World Junior Wrestling Championships gold medal. As a folkstyle wrestler, he was the 2023 NCAA Division I national and Big Ten Conference champion at 285 pounds for the Michigan Wolverines, and the Dan Hodge Trophy winner. High school career Parris attended Lawrenceburg High School in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where he was a three-sport athlete, participating in wrestling, football, and track and field. The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (also known as CSUB Roadrunners, and sometimes as the Bakersfield Roadrunners) are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing the California State University, Bakersfield, located in Bakersfield, California. Stephen Matthew Neal (born October 9, 1976) is a former American football guard who played his entire career for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He is a former world champion in freestyle wrestling and two-time NCAA national champion wrestler at Cal State-Bakersfield. He was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2001, and won three Super Bowl rings with the team. He is one of a handful of NFL players who did not play college football. Jared Frayer (born October 7, 1978) of Miami, Florida is an American freestyle wrestler who won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials at 66 kg and competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life Frayer was born in Miami, Florida but grew up in Clearwater, Florida where his father coached at Clearwater Countryside High School . Minnesota State Mavericks
The Minnesota State Mavericks are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Minnesota State University, Mankato. The school's athletic program includes 21 varsity sports teams. More than 600 students participate each year in athletics for the university. Most of the university's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The men's and women's ice hockey teams compete at the Division I level, respectively in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Iowa State Cyclones wrestling team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. Cael Norman Sanderson ( ; born June 20, 1979) is an American former folkstyle and freestyle wrestler who is the current head coach of Penn State University's wrestling team.
