Jared Frayer
Jared Frayer (born October 7, 1978) of Miami, Florida is an American freestyle wrestler who won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials at 66 kg and competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life Frayer was born in Miami, Florida but grew up in Clearwater, Florida where his father coached at Clearwater Countryside High School . He was a three-time Florida High School State Wrestling Champion. College career Frayer was a two-time NCAA All-American at the University of Oklahoma, with a best finish of 2nd place. He has since been an assistant wrestling coach with the Virginia Tech Hokies. International career Frayer defeated Brent Metcalf 2-0 at the finals of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials to qualify for the USA Olympic Team. Men's freestyle 66 kilograms competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, took place on 12 August at ExCeL London. This freestyle wrestling competition consisted of a single-elimination tournament, with a repechage used to determine the winners of two bronze medals. The two finalists faced off for gold and silver medals. Each wrestler who lost to one of the two finalists moved into the repechage, culminating in a pair of bronze medal matches featuring the semifinal losers each facing the remaining repechage opponent from their half of the bracket. Each bout consisted of up to three rounds, lasting two minutes apiece. The wrestler who scored more points in each round was the winner of that rounds; the bout finished when one wrestler had won two rounds (and thus the match). Brent Metcalf (born July 14, 1986) is an American freestyle wrestler who formerly competed in the international circuit for the United States of America. Biography As a prep wrestler, Metcalf went undefeated with a career record of 228-0, won four consecutive Michigan state titles, and earned six junior national titles. After originally committing to Virginia Tech, Metcalf would ultimately transfer to the University of Iowa following his redshirt year, to follow coach Tom Brands, who was switching head coaching positions from Virginia Tech to the University of Iowa also. Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling.
