Scarborough TEC
__NOTOC__ Scarborough TEC, (formerly known as Yorkshire Coast College, Scarborough Technical College, Scarborough Technical Institute, and Scarborough School of Art) is a further education college located on Filey Road Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It is a constituent college of the Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education. Yorkshire Coast College was originally an independently controlled institution, but due to consistently poor results and long-term financial difficulties was taken over by the Grimsby Institute in January 2010. College courses for students from Scarborough and the surrounding area include NVQs, GCSEs, BTECs, Apprenticeships and Access courses, and some higher education courses in conjunction with the University of Hull. In November 2016, the name was changed from Yorkshire Coast College to Scarborough TEC, with the TEC standing for ''Training, Education, Careers''. Robert Palmer (singer)
Robert Allen Palmer (19 January 1949 – 26 September 2003) was an English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. He was known for his powerful, soulful voice and sartorial elegance, and for his stylistic explorations, combining soul, funk, jazz, rock, pop, reggae, and blues. While his "four-decade career incorporated every genre of music", Palmer is best known "for the pounding rock-soul classic, " Addicted to Love", and its accompanying video, which came to epitomise the glamour and excesses of the 1980s." Harry Watson (artist)
Harry Watson (13 June 1871 – 17 September 1936) was an English landscape and portrait artist born in Scarborough. He briefly lived in Canada between 1881 and 1883. Biography Watson studied at the Scarborough School of Art 1884–88, at Lambeth School of Art and at the Royal College of Art (R.C.A.) 1889–94, where he won numerous gold, silver and bronze medals and was awarded a traveling scholarship to Italy. Watson exhibited at the Royal Academy (R.A.) from 1896; member R.W.S. 1915; R.W.A. 1927; R.O.I. 1932. Taught at Regent Street Polytechnic from 1913. Watson embraced En plein air painting, often capturing the effect of natural light falling to on to his subjects which gives many of his works an impressionistic style. Albert Strange
Albert Strange (1855–1917) was an English artist and yacht designer. He was the headmaster of the Scarborough School of Art. With George Holmes, he was a mainstay of the Humber Yawl Club which developed the use of sailing canoes with a yawl rig. Early life and education Albert Strange was born in 1855, growing up in Gravesend where he learned to sail with a fisherman who helped him convert a peter boat for cruising around the Thames Estuary. He studied art at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Leicester College of Arts and Crafts, completing his education in 1878. He then taught art in Liverpool for three years, where he married. Circa 1882, Strange took a job as the headmaster of the new Scarborough School of Art — a position which he held for 35 years until his death. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, from 1882 to 1897. Frank Henry Mason
Frank Henry Mason (1 October 1875 – 24 February 1965), RBA, RI, RSMA was an English artist best known for his maritime, shipping, coastal and harbour paintings, and as a creator of art deco travel and railway posters. His style is described as "light impressionist" and he was a founder member of the ''Staithes Art Club'' whose members are known today as the ''Staithes group'' of artists, or the ''Northern Impressionists''. Early life Mason was born Frank Henry Algernon Mason in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, County Durham, England on 1 October 1875, the son of a railway clerk. He was educated between 1880 and 1882 as a cadet at the naval school ship at Birkenhead. On leaving HMS Conway, Mason spent time at sea then trained with Parsons as a marine engineer for steam powered ships working at Hartlepool, Leeds and Scarborough, eventually settling in Scarborough around about 1894. Ian Hunter (artist)
Ian Hunter (27 April 1939 – 1 March 2017) was a British artist and Dean of Saint Martin's School of Art (now Central Saint Martins) in London. Overview Hunter was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, but his family moved to Scarborough. He studied at the Scarborough School of Art. His friend Ian Parkinson inspired him to be an artist and they both studied at the Leicester College of Art and Design. He became a lecturer at the Luton School of Art, the Guildford School of Art and the Farnham College of Art. He was based for a year at Stout University, Menomonie, Wisconsin, in the United States. He then moved to the Falmouth School of Art and the Cheltenham School of Art, where he became the Head of Fine Art. In the 1980s, he became the Dean of Art at Central St Martins. Ernest Dade

Frances Crawshaw
Frances Crawshaw ( Frances Fisher; September 1876 – 1968) was a British painter in oils and watercolours and also a botanical artist. Biography Crawshaw was born in Manchester and grew up at Sewerby on the Yorkshire coast where her father, Robert Fisher, was a vicar. She attended the Scarborough School of Art and the Westminster School of Art in London and also studied art in Milan, Paris and Edinburgh. During her life, Crawshaw lived at Whitby in North Yorkshire, Edinburgh, Droitwich and latterly at Newton Abbot in Devon. She painted flowers and landscapes in both oil and watercolours and during the 1930s exhibited regularly with the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society and the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Fred Appleyard
Fred Appleyard (1874 – 1963) was a British artist known for his landscape paintings, portraits, classical subjects and allegorical compositions. He had 41 works exhibited during his lifetime by the Royal Academy and painted the mural ''Spring Driving Out Winter'' in the Academy Restaurant. Appleyard was born in Middlesbrough, England on 9 September 1874, the son of Isaac Appleyard, an iron merchant. His uncle was the sculptor John Wormald Appleyard. Having received his formal education at Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Scarborough, he attended Yorkshire Coast College, Scarborough School of Art under the genre and landscape painter Albert Strange.
