Jonas Swenholt
Jonas Swenholt (December 20, 1855 – March 8, 1923) was an American businessman and politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Jonas Swenholt born in the town of Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He was the son of John and Ingeborg Swenholt, both of whom were immigrants from Norway. Swenholt moved with his parents to a farm in Scandinavia, Wisconsin in Waupaca County, Wisconsin in 1863. In 1880, Swenholt moved to Wittenberg, Wisconsin in Shawano County, Wisconsin. Swenholt was in the mercantile and lumber business. He served as postmaster of Wittenberg and different village and town offices. Swenholt served as register of deeds for Shawano County in 1896. Swenholt then served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1901 and 1905 as a Republican from Shawano County. West Bend is the county seat of Washington County, Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,752. History Early history and settlement Northeastern Washington County's earliest known inhabitants were pre-Columbian Mound Builders, who constructed effigy mounds in the area sometime between 650 CE and 1300 CE. They were semi-nomadic and survived by hunting, fishing, and gathering wild plants. They made pottery and constructed tools from bone, wood, stone, and occasionally copper. They built effigy mounds shaped like mammals, reptiles, birds and other creatures, both real and mythical, as well as conical, oval, and linear mounds, some of which contain human burials. Theodore Holtebeck
Theodore Holtebeck (June 4, 1883 – March 22, 1963) was an American politician and businessman. Born in Norway, Holtebeck emigrated to the United States in 1896 and settled in Scandinavia, Wisconsin, in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, working a farm. From 1909 to 1934, Holtebeck operated a barber shop in West Bend, Wisconsin and then was in the insurance business. Holtebeck served on the West Bend Common Council from 1914 to 1924 and 1936. He also served as undersheriff of Washington County and sheriff of Washington County from 1929 to 1932. Holtebeck was a Republican.
