Jonas Swenholt
Jonas Swenholt (December 20, 1855 – March 8, 1923) was an American businessman and politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Jonas Swenholt born in the town of Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He was the son of John and Ingeborg Swenholt, both of whom were immigrants from Norway. Swenholt moved with his parents to a farm in Scandinavia, Wisconsin in Waupaca County, Wisconsin in 1863. In 1880, Swenholt moved to Wittenberg, Wisconsin in Shawano County, Wisconsin. Swenholt was in the mercantile and lumber business. He served as postmaster of Wittenberg and different village and town offices. Swenholt served as register of deeds for Shawano County in 1896. Swenholt then served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1901 and 1905 as a Republican from Shawano County. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. Helmer Swenholt
Helmer Swenholt (28 June 1886 – 8 May 1952) was born in Wittenberg, Shawano County, Wisconsin (near Shawano, Wisconsin). Having pursued a degree in engineering, he put his education to work in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was an officer and Veteran of World War I, and after the war continued his service in the Army Corps of Engineers. In World War II, Swenholt organized one of the first of the Engineer Regiments, a new type of combat engineer organization. At the war's conclusion Swenholt returned to the United States and retired from the Army. Family His father was Jonas Swenholt, who served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Education He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1908 in engineering. Oconomowoc is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,836 at the 2020 census. The City of Oconomowoc and the Villages of Chenequa and Lac La Belle are located partially in the town. The unincorporated communities of Mapleton, Monterey, and Okauchee Lake, are located in the town. The unincorporated community of Stone Bank is located partially in the town.
