Sarandí Grande is a city in the north of the Florida Department of central Uruguay. Geography It is located on the intersection of Route 5 (Uruguay), Route 5 with Route 42, about from Montevideo, north-northwest of Florida, Uruguay, Florida, the capital city of the department, and south-southeast of Durazno, the capital city of the Durazno Department. History First on 6 July 1853 and again on 22 July 1861 the creation of a village here was approved by the Acts of Ley N° 331 and Ley N° 695 respectively. The village was founded in October 1874 in the area of the railway station. On 13 June 1906, its status was established as "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley N° 3.042, at the time serving as head of the judicial section of "Estación Sarandí". Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. As from August 29, 2010, all phone numbers have 8 digits, according to the new National Numbering Plan. Zero prior to area code was eliminated. Route 5 (Uruguay)
Route 5 is a national route of Uruguay. In 1975, it was assigned the name Brigadier General Fructuoso Rivera, a national hero of Uruguay. It is one of the most important highways in country, along with Route 3, connecting Montevideo in the south with Rivera in the north and passing through the centre of the country. The road is approximately in length. Upon reaching Santana do Livramento (the Brazilian extension of Rivera), the road joins federal highway BR-158. Durazno is the capital city of the department of Durazno in Uruguay. Durazno is characterized by being the most central city of Uruguay. It has a population of more than 30,000 inhabitants. In the past it was the capital of Uruguay; today the capital is Montevideo.
