Florida () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Florida. It is located in the south of the central part of the country with Durazno Department to its north, the departments of Treinta y Tres and Lavalleja to its east, Canelones Department to its south and the departments of Flores and San José to its west. History Florida Department was formed on 10 July 1856 from part of San José Department. In 1760 the first populated place in its territory started by creating a fortress, the Fortín del Pintado, and in 1809 the "Villa de San Fernando de la Florida" was created. During the events of the Independence of Uruguay, a temporary government was set up in this town, and on 25 August 1825, the ''Congreso de la Florida'' proclaimed the three fundamental laws of the new independent country. Florida () is the capital of Florida Department of Uruguay. Having a population of over 33,000, it is home to almost half of the inhabitants of the department. Location It is located on Route 5, around north of Montevideo. Geography The stream Arroyo Santa Lucía Chico flows along the east and south limits of the city. On 14 January 2022, Florida recorded a temperature of , which is the joint highest temperature (along with Paysandú) to have ever been recorded in Uruguay. History The city was founded on 24 April 1809 with this name, Florida, in honor of the count of Floridablanca, the prime minister of the Spanish crown. Departments Of Uruguay
Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. At that time, the department of Paysandú occupied all the territory north of the Río Negro, which included the current departments of Artigas, Rivera, Tacuarembó, Salto, Paysandú and Río Negro. Nico Pérez is a village in the Florida Department of central Uruguay. It is located on the border of the Lavalleja Department. Geography It is in close proximity to José Batlle y Ordoñez José is a predominantly Spanish and Portuguese form of the given name Joseph. While spelled alike, this name is pronounced differently in each language: Spanish ; Portuguese (or ). In French, the name ''José'', pronounced , is an old vernacul .... Veinticinco de Agosto, mostly written 25 de Agosto, is a small town in the Florida Department of central Uruguay. Geography It is located on Route 77, about northeast of its intersection with Route 11. The railroad track from Montevideo splits here in two tracks, one towards Salto and one towards Florida, the capital of the department. The river Río Santa Lucía flows along the east limits of the village. History It was recognized as a recently created populated centre by a decree of 1 September 1875 and on 29 April 1912, it was declared a "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Ley Nº 3.965. Fray Marcos is a town in the Florida Department of southern-central Uruguay. Sarandí Grande is a city in the north of the Florida Department of central Uruguay. Geography It is located on the intersection of Route 5 (Uruguay), Route 5 with Route 42, about from Montevideo, north-northwest of Florida, Uruguay, Florida, the capital city of the department, and south-southeast of Durazno, the capital city of the Durazno Department. Cuchilla Grande
Cuchilla Grande is a hill range that crosses the east part of Uruguay from north to south. It extends from the south part of Cerro Largo Department, through the departments of Treinta y Tres and Lavalleja and ends in Maldonado Department where it forms its highest peaks. Noted features In the southern part of this range, there is the Cerro Catedral, the highest point of the country. This hill is situated in the Maldonado Department.
