Administratively, Cuba is divided into 15 provinces and one special municipality (the Isla de la Juventud). Playa is a Cuban municipality, located in the Havana province. It covers an area of 36.8 square kilometers, which makes up 8.95% of the provincial extension. Geography Playa is the most northwestern of the ''municipios''. It stretches from the Almendares River in the east, to Santa Fe in the west. Playa Baracoa
Playa Baracoa, sometimes shortened as ''Baracoa'', is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Bauta, in Artemisa Province. In 2011 it had a population of about 7,000. History The village was founded in 1862 on a sugar cane mill, named San Cristóbal de Baracoa, established in the 18th century. Between 1930 and 1940, some members of the upper class from the nearby city of Havana, built their summer houses in the village. Many of these wooden houses are still standing, and some of them are still used as summer residences. Bauta is a municipality and town located southwest of Havana City, in the Artemisa Province of Cuba since 2010 as a result of the division of what was the Province of Havana (Havana Countryside). Artemisa Province
Artemisa Province is one of the two new provinces created from the former La Habana Province, whose creation was approved by the Cuban National Assembly on August 1, 2010, the other being Mayabeque Province. The new provinces came into existence on January 1, 2011. Overview Artemisa was the largest city and municipality of the former La Habana Province. The newly formed province combined the eight western municipalities of La Habana Province and three eastern municipalities of neighbor province Pinar del Río (Bahía Honda, Candelaria and San Cristóbal).
