Sant Martí (district)
Sant Martí (), is a district of Barcelona located on its eastern side, usually numbered 10 out of the ten districts of the city. It borders the Mediterranean Sea, Sant Adrià del Besòs and four other districts of the city: Ciutat Vella, l'Eixample, Horta-Guinardó and Sant Andreu. It did not become an integral part of Barcelona until as late as 1897, having been an autonomous village since 1714 with the imposition of the infamous Nueva Planta decrees. Before then, it had been a secondary parish of Santa Maria del Mar. Demographics Sant Martí has a population of 221,029 (2005), which makes it the second most populated district in Barcelona. Being the fourth largest district (10,8 km2), it is also the sixth in density (20.466 inhabitants/km2). Sant Martí is the name of a Barcelona metro station located in the Sant Martí (district), Sant Martí district of the Barcelona, city, opened in 1997. It is located under Carrer de Guipúscoa, between Carrer Agricultura and Carrer Cantàbria, with an access on each side. Sant Martí, Biure
Sant Martí de Biure is a tenth-century Romanesque church located in the municipality of Sagàs, Catalonia, northern Spain. History The church was built sometime around the turn of the tenth century by the inhabitants of the town of Biure, then called ''Benevivere'', who had recently come to the area as part of the attempts at repopulation of the areas recently conquered by the Christian Counts of Barcelona from the Moors. With the encouragement of a local baron named Guadamir, bishop Nantigís of Urgell consecrated the church on 13 December 903, establishing it as the seat of its own parish. In 1044 it was re-consecrated by bishop Guillem Guifré of Urgell, who confirmed its status as an independent parish. It is possible that the church was a residence of the Knights Templar from the end of the 12th century until the extinction of the order in the fourteenth century. Sant Martí d'Empúries is an entity of the town of L'Escala. It is located next to the ruins of Empúries or Empòrion. Ancient Greeks established the settlement in the 6th century BC. Sant Martí Vell is a village in the Provinces of Spain, province of Province of Girona, Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain.
