Sanremo Music Festival 1977
The Sanremo Music Festival 1977 ( it, Festival di Sanremo 1977), officially the 27th Italian Song Festival (), was the 27th annual Sanremo Music Festival, held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, province of Imperia between 3 and 5 March 1977. The final night was broadcast by Rai 1. The first two nights were broadcast live by radio and presented by Maria Giovanna Elmi, while the final night Elmi hosted together with Mike Bongiorno. Rules of this edition consisted a "head to head" mechanism between two singers at a time. A jury, composed of 25 members, was located immediately under the stage and had to express the vote for a singer or another. Mike Bongiorno
Michael Nicholas Salvatore Bongiorno (; May 26, 1924 – September 8, 2009) was an Italian-American television host. After a few experiences in the US, he started working on RAI in the 1950s and was considered to be the most popular host in Italy. He was also known by the nickname ''il Re del Quiz'' ("The Quiz King"), and the peculiarity of starting all his shows with his trademark greeting: ''Allegria!'' ("Cheers!", "Joy!"). Early years Bongiorno was born in New York City to parents of Italian descent. He moved to Turin (his mother's native city), when he was young. His father was a Sicilian-American lawyer of partial Arbëreshë origin. During World War II, he abandoned his studies and joined a group of Italian partisans. Toto Cutugno
Salvatore "Toto" Cutugno (; born 7 July 1943) is an Italian pop singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for his worldwide hit song, "L'Italiano", released on his 1983 album of the same title. Cutugno also won the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 held in Zagreb, Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia with the song " Insieme: 1992", for which he wrote both lyrics and music. Matia Bazar
Matia Bazar () is an Italian pop band formed in Genoa in 1975. The original members of the group were Piero Cassano (keyboards), Aldo Stellita (bass), Carlo Marrale (guitar, vocals), Giancarlo Golzi (drums) and Antonella Ruggiero (vocals). They represented Italy in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest with a song called "Raggio di luna". Michele Zarrillo
Michele Zarrillo (born 13 June 1957) is an Italian singer-songwriter. He is mainly known for hits such as "Una rosa blu" (A blue rose), "Cinque giorni" (Five days), L'elefante e la farfalla (The elephant and the butterfly) and "La notte dei pensieri" (The night of thoughts). In 1987 he won the Sanremo Music Festival, competing in the newcomers' section.
