Matia Bazar
Matia Bazar () is an Italian pop band formed in Genoa in 1975. The original members of the group were Piero Cassano (keyboards), Aldo Stellita (bass), Carlo Marrale (guitar, vocals), Giancarlo Golzi (drums) and Antonella Ruggiero (vocals). They represented Italy in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest with a song called "Raggio di luna". They are known for the quality of their female vocalists: after Antonella Ruggiero, Laura Valente, Silvia Mezzanotte, Roberta Faccani and currently Luna Dragonieri. Their major hits were ''Solo tu'' (1978), '' Vacanze Romane'' (1982), Souvenir (1985) and '' Ti Sento'' (1985), which peaked on the charts in Belgium, Netherlands and Italy. Ruggiero and Marrale, the two main vocalists of the original line-up, left respectively in 1989 and 1994 to pursue solo careers. The Sanremo Music Festival, officially the Italian Song Festival () and commonly known as just (), is the most popular Italian song contest and awards ceremony, held annually in the city of Sanremo, Liguria. Aldo Stellita
Aldo Salvatore Stellita (August 2, 1947 – July 9, 1998), was an Italian bassist and songwriter, a founding member of the Genoan band Matia Bazar. Early career and Jet A native of Sicily, Stellita moved to Bolzano at an early age. In 1971, shortly before getting his Chemistry degree, he founded in Genoa, with fellow musicians Piero Cassano and Carlo Marrale, the progressive rock band ''Jet''. Laura Valente, stage name of Laura Bortolotti (born 3 September 1963 in Milan), is an Italian singer and musician. Early solo career After winning a songwriting contest with a song about a young victim of drug addiction as a teenager, Valente collaborated with Gianni Bella on his album ''G.B. 2'' (1984), which led to her getting her first recording contract soon thereafter. "Non so che darei" ("I don't know what I'd give") was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980, performed in Italian by Alan Sorrenti. Background The song deals with Sorrenti's feelings for his lover. He tells her that he does not know what he would do if he were to lose her and also that he does not know what he would give to stop time and be able to spend the night with her. The song was a massive success in Italy, staying on the first place of the Italian hit parade for over two months, and got Sorrenti a award. Sorrenti also recorded an English-language version of the song with the title "If You Need Me Now". Alan Sorrenti (born 9 December 1950) is an Italian singer and composer. Biography Sorrenti was born in Naples, but his mother was Welsh, and he spent much of his childhood in Aberystwyth, Wales. As a result, he is fluent in both Italian and English and has sung in both languages throughout his career. Sorrenti's career began in the early 1970s; he released his first album, ''Aria'', in 1972, followed by ''Come un vecchio incensiere all'alba di un villaggio deserto'' in 1973, both consisting mostly of progressive rock and experimental tracks. In 1976, Alan Sorrenti shifted genre and released tracks more reminiscent of the dance genre.
