San Antonio Thunder
The San Antonio Thunder were an American soccer team based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1975 as a member of the North American Soccer League, the team played two seasons in San Antonio before the franchise rights were moved to Hawaii. The team was owned by Herman Warden "Ward" Lay, Jr., son of the founder of the Frito-Lay potato chip empire. History Founding and first season On June 25, 1974, San Antonio, Texas was announced as the location of the North American Soccer League's 17th franchise for the following season, with Herman Warden "Ward" Lay, Jr. paying a reported fee of $250,000 to join the league. Comalander Stadium
Comalander Stadium is an 11,000-seat, open style football and soccer stadium in San Antonio, Texas. Built as North East Stadium in 1962, it was renamed to Comalander Stadium in 2000, for long time district athletic director Jerry Comalander. As a part of the Blossom Athletic Center, it is owned and operated by the North East Independent School District. Along with Heroes Stadium Heroes Stadium is an 11,000-seat, open style football stadium serving the public school district North East ISD in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Chris Carenza
Christopher James "Chris" or "CJ" Carenza is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the North American Soccer League. College Carenza, son of Hall of Famer Joe Carenza, Sr. and brother of John Carenza, graduated from St. Mary's High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1970. He attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he played on the men's soccer team from 1971 to 1974. In 1972, he led the team in scoring and scored the winning goal in the NCAA Men's Division II Soccer Championship. He was also a 1974 Honorable Mention All American. In 2005, SIUE inducted Carenza into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in 2004. The 1966 FIFA World Cup was the eighth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in England from 11 July to 30 July 1966. The England national football team defeated West Germany 4-2 in the final to win the tournament. Robert Brown Clark (born 26 September 1945) is a Scottish football player and coach. Clark, who played as a goalkeeper, spent most of his playing career with Aberdeen. James Forrest (born 22 September 1944) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a striker for Rangers, Preston, Aberdeen and Hong Kong Rangers. The Houston Aeros were a professional ice hockey team in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 to 1978. Franchise history The Aeros were originally slated to play in Dayton, Ohio, as a charter member of the WHA. However, Dayton residents were indifferent at best to a WHA team, and while there were questions regarding whether a U.S. market with less than a million people and a stagnating economy would support a major league hockey franchise in the long term, the more critical short-term problem was that Dayton did not have a suitable arena. The largest arena in the city, the University of Dayton Arena, did not have an ice plant and the university balked at the cost of installing one. Daniel Califano was an Argentine- American soccer defender who spent one season in the North American Soccer League. He also earned one cap with the U.S. national team. In Argentina, he played in 1966 three games for Club Ferro Carril Oeste in First Division.
